Let's imagine my brilliantly researched and written article on April 1st was true, I thought the question of the value of single letter .com's would make for an interesting discussion ...

https://www.namepros.com/threads/icann-to-auction-single-letter-coms-in-2018.1009990/

I'm thinking one could easily make the argument for at least mid 8 figures (~$50 Million) for ones like A.com (to Amazon), G.com (to Google), M.com (for Microsoft), S.com (for Samsung), etc

But would such companies really put out such sums of money for the most generic of all generics?

Would they be willing to shell out even more money than that if another company were interested?

How wide a difference in price could there potentially be between the various single letters?

Do you think the price of single numbers would differ significantly from the letters?
(Imagine selling 8.com at the peak of the CHIP craze in late 2015? lol)

I think one could even argue they could be worth even more .. but how many companies even have that much money to spend on what essentially would be rebranding?

Supposedly Z.com sold a few years ago for around $8 million, making it worth theoretically less valuable than Sex.com?

Overstock.com was pushing for O.com for years and ended up getting O.co

I think PayPal.com actually owns X.com .. but they choose to stay with a 6 character domain.

There actually are 3 single letter .com's on the Internet today (Q, X and Z.com) .. does anybody even visit those? When Nissan owned Z.com .. was it really the killer name that significantly added to their bottom line?

So many points can be made both adding and removing from the potential value of a single letter .com .. what do you all think? More importantly .. what do you think the chances are that ICANN will actually auction these off one day?
