Once again I will respond to your accusations since you insist on making it personal. I claimed that BOTH parties are concerned about government surveillance, but cited a poll which shows that Republicans are less concerned.

When you try to support a claim by just adding certain selected data points that favor your claim, you're being disingenuous.

This is not my opinion. You make generalized claims without providing any evidence to support those claims. Essentially, polls are reflective of which party currently holds office.

I'm not going to fish through your post, but I clearly remember you having no problem with that. And now, though you have a problem with it because it was politically unwise and perhaps not the best move he could have made, you still haven't gone far enough. It was a strike at the very essence of basic human rights.

We firmly believe in the right to protest government policies and voice a wide array of opinions, but what is happening in Ottawa has done more harm to Teamsters members, be they Truck Drivers who were trying to deliver their loads, or hotel, restaurant and healthcare workers who were intimidated, abused or prevented from accessing their workplaces, by several protesters.

Teamsters Canada would welcome collaboration with government and employers to address today’s real challenges in the trucking industry to keep the supply chain going and Canada’s economy growing.

We join in the calls urging those protesters with legitimate concerns to go back to their own communities and work with local politicians. We are all frustrated and want our lives back, however, let’s ensure we get there respectfully, safely and protect the health of our most vulnerable first.

According to statements by leaders of Alberta’s separatist movement, they have been received by senior U.S. officials on at least three occasions since the inauguration of Donald Trump, who has repeatedly expressed interest in annexing Canada. One movement leader claimed in a late December 2025 interview to have met with "senior officials at the top of the State Department" — people who "go straight to the Oval Office" .

These meetings and statements do not appear to be isolated incidents. A directive issued by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio instructed American embassies and consulates worldwide to engage more actively in influence operations 32 — including in coordination with the US military's psychological operations capabilities — calling for the elevation of "local voices who support American interests" and the recruitment of "local influencers, academics and community leaders abroad," an approach explicitly designed to make American-funded narratives appear locally organic rather than centrally directed.

Beyond its actual operational impact, the directive's existence undermines Canada's democracy by casting doubt on the authenticity of any voice —online or in person — debating Alberta's place in Confederation.

On all sides, Americans have been primed to surrender their basic rights over the past decades. And so have Canadians.

The aggressive push toward centralization is led by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), whose efforts to consolidate personal records from agencies began under the pretext of fraud prevention. That effort has since evolved into something far more expansive, with a broader goal now taking shape: the creation of massive, centralized databases of agency-held personal information. While the Trump administration has justified and framed both of these practices as harmless or even helpful, they represent a shift away from long-standing limits on how personal information can be used by federal agencies.

To prevent future abuse, federal privacy law should be updated to further prohibit agencies and government officials from knowingly entering, altering, or reclassifying records using false or misleading information about an individual. These violations should carry both civil and criminal penalties to ensure meaningful accountability. Creating a record-focused criminal provision would send a clear signal that altering federal records to the detriment of individuals is not only improper but also illegal.
