Of course USA has a larger population, economy and military than Canada, and Trump weaponized it against us. Canadians were also pissed that Trump flipped the script on our long-lasting relationship.
At the time of his election, Pierre was leading in the polls by a wide margin, but he is considered a puppet and we scrambled in the chaos. Then Canada pulled in a ringer... the Bruce Lee of economics, Mark Carney. Carney is not Trudeau, his policies could even be considered traditional Progressive Conservative. He would've won as leader of either party, but a good leader is not enough. Our independence is worth more to us than ugly politics and greed. We rejected the populist right-wing agenda and Carney spoke to our national pride. We are willing to make sacrifices... temporary pain for long-term gain.
The part which gets me is, why would MAGAs support his tech bros data collection regime? Smaller government in the hands of a few elite narcissists. Is US is becoming a totalitarian authoritarian state and people there so fearful and xenophobic they would choose to give up their freedom and privacy for a pie-in-the-sky trickle down agenda? I just have to shake my head and thank our lucky stars.
