We have different ideas about what freedom is.

No doubt we have different ideas about what freedom is, just like we have different ideas. For instance, I just sold my sled for $XX XXX cash, no receipt needed, why? Trust. Also, the buyer doesn't need to register or have a permit to drive, so there's no government tax, no license needed, no safety course (not even a helmet) is required, nor insurance for that matter. Why? Trust. Nobody is going to steal it and people use common sense when driving. And since everything is covered in snow in the winter, you can go anywhere, travel 1000 miles in any direction without worrying about speeding tickets etc. Hell, my sled does 0-100kph in 2 seconds :woot: and tops out at 100mph! Try that down south (not on a race track)

@sonatime You keep posting this...you must enjoy that view

I am surprised... You should have told us you live with libertarians and conservatives. Why is it that you don't want others to be free like you?

what a vulgar clownshow, espouses personal freedom for himself but shills every MSM smear and leftist totalitarian intervention all day every day. Classic commie mindset, rules for thee but not for me.

As I've said before, if people only knew what real freedom was...folks around here aren't heavy into Canadian politics, or US either, but they know they don't like the conservative government. As for libertarians, that's kewl, they can do as they please, I'm not imposing.

...and oh yeah, I didn't even count the cash when the guy handed it over to me. Why? 'cuz I trusted him. I counted later and it was bang on the money :$:

That's because you have a community, where people are bonded by family, neighbors, social groups, churches and friends - and where reputation is the most valuable thing people have. As government moves in, they begin to take over all the functions of these things, eventually destroying society and replacing it with a prison of strangers bound by endlessly restrictive laws.

Don't make assumptions...it took many years to achieve a sense of peace and pride. There have been many restrictions imposed, traumas and obstacles to overcome etc. etc. Not to mention, a nation created by God is lost when men forget who gave it to them in the first place.

But you are right on some of these points: reputation is paramount, just as is respect for others and for the land. I have very little respect for those who see themselves as being entitled. Many millenials, esp alt-right millenials have a sense of displaced entitlement - the discontent they feel when one compares their position in life to others who they feel are equal or inferior, but have unfairly had more success or privilege than them.

As for government interference, that's a no-brainer. We've discussed that ad nauseum. Why is it that trumpers are so adamant against immigrants? They want to protect what they feel is rightfully theirs by birthright, no? Think about how that has played out historically. Who has been displaced from their land, traditions, culture, language etc.?

Imposition and restrictions? So what if you have to wear a mask or self-isolate for awhile, don't have a big hissy fit about it. Covid too, shall pass. :xf.wink:

“Desires for material things have limits - most people really only want or need one dishwasher, or one or two cars - but desire for emotional needs like status, love, acceptance and autonomy are bottomless. Tying material goods to nonmaterial desires ensures people are never satisfied with what they have. It’s how we’ve convinced some of the most materially rich citizens in history that they don’t have enough.”

Get off the hamster wheel, folks! :xf.wink:
