The shutdown exposes the dead weight of Government Employment, for those of you who worry about them.

You’ve had bad experiences with government employees you dealt with. We get it.

The fact is, you don’t KNOW what most government employees DO, so you latch onto terms like “non essential” and assume they just shuffle paper from one to another.

Non Essential for the most part means anyone not directly involved in public safety. The lucky “essentials” get to work without pay. Technically “deferred pay”, but I doubt their mortgages, taxes and other financial obligations will be “deferred.”

Shutdown also affects businesses near government facilities. If the local coffee shop or deli normally gets 50% of their business from government workers who are furloughed, that’s a 50% drop in their income which they won’t get back. And they have to pay their own employees (or lay some off, if this lasts long enough .)

Then there are contractors - they won’t get paid at all. Another type of small business that’s SOL.

Everything that happens affects something else.

The reason for it being “general use” and “unconditional” is that otherwise what would differentiate it from a bribe? What would be stopping any individuals or corporations from “buying” political influence and favors? Which is essentially what this gfm is attempting to do. It’s people trying to bypass government checks and balances to buy something they personally want.

If people started one to help implement a single payer healthcare system, you’d pitch a fit.

Then there’s the shady past of the guy who started the fund and some suspicious “anonymous” donations...

Anyone who reads gatewaypundit for more than the entertainment value has no right to call out other media as “fake news.” That’s the granddaddy of “fake news” right there.

You don't read real news. The example you used, just shows there are consequences for that kind of stuff with Real News. Look at what happened alone with Dan Rather. "Sometimes they are wrong." And when they are, which is a lot, what are the consequences? There are none, because it's a crap site to begin with, and it's not a big deal to them or the readers.

That's one difference between real journalists and propaganda outlets.

Real news outlets admit their mistakes, they take responsibility, they come clean, they clean up.
When they get owned, they take responsibility too.
Note that it is Der Spiegel that outed the rogue journalist. Then they run a 23-page report on the issue, they are not dodging the problem.

On the other hand, your favorite outlets publish lies on a daily basis, sow hatred, they feed you with doctored pictures, they warp your mind, they treat you like children and they don't apologize ever. They never correct or update their articles. You probably noticed that too.
They are not journalists in the first place but far-right bloggers. But you trust everything they post without question because of your own confirmation bias (and denial of reality).

It is embarrassing really, debunking the stuff posted here has become a full-time job and there are a few of you who insist on using such lousy sources. But you never hold them accountable for anything.

And how do you know that you are not brainwashed yourself? Nobody is 100% immune from the influence of a powerful media onslaught, including social media and entertainment. People generally go with the line of thought that creates the least friction, that is the least questioned. And that's the left.

Another sign of brainwashing is the inability to understand the opposing viewpoint without resorting to blanket dismissals such as calling them racist, fearful, ignorant, counter-revolutionary... whatever the term of the day is, without solid facts to back that up.

Sure, everybody is wedded to their views, which is why these kinds of threads never get anywhere. But honest people question themselves. And that's much easier to do if others are challenging your views regularly. That's not the case for today's left.

Funny you can post all of that without the slightest awareness that something might be wrong with an economy that depends so heavily on unaccountable government bureaucrats and mostly corrupt government officials. That a government shutdown should impact the wider economy is in itself a sign of a diseased economy. Many of these business owners become wealthy off government waste, corruption and theft from productive citizens. I know a couple myself. I can hardly blame them, but I can blame the ignorance of people who accept it and even think it's a good idea to perpetuate it. Many are even grateful for it. Talk about brainwashing.

Needless to say, I am all for government shutdowns. The reason politicians are afraid of shutdowns is that if they go on long enough people will start to wonder why they needed all that government in the first place.

Don’t you want peace? With a lifetime soldier and General in charge, his job description and business is War. A civilian leader will lead by building up weapon designs, not to be used, but for deterence.

Just imagine, suppose If the US removes ALL its troops worldwide, and “Allies” had to pay their own bills and use their own soldiers, the US taxpayer wins.
