The US never actually “banned” it, despite the overwhelming evidence of health risks. Earlier this year, they declared asbestos in certain products as “legacy” applications, exempt from risk evaluation. Never mind that the asbestos in these “legacy applications” has killed a lot of people, that data can’t be used to assess the “new” products manufacturers are being invited to submit.

45 has been against banning it for decades - I’d like to know how many asbestos containing products he personally has in his own homes.

Just last week a steam pipe with asbestos insulation exploded in NYC - 45 buildings were evacuated for the cleanup. Forty five buildings in the middle of NYC completely evacuated. And that’s the problem with it - if it’s fully encapsulated It’s theoretically “safe”, but sh*t happens. Also over time materials break down and release little death daggers into the surrounding environment. And then there are those work with it in manufacturing, who are at the highest risk, second only to those who mine it and live near the mines.
