The article above is saying this move is going to kill it but:
"The Girl Scouts and the BSA are among several major youth organizations in the U.S. experiencing sharp drops in membership in recent years. Reasons include competition from sports leagues, a perception by some families that they are old-fashioned and busy family schedules.
The Boy Scouts say current youth participation is about 2.3 million, down from 2.6 million in 2013 and more than 4 million in peak years of the past."
From 4 million to 2.3 million before this move.
"The parent organization will remain the Boy Scouts of America, and the Cub Scouts — its program serving children from kindergarten through fifth grade — will keep its title, as well.
But the Boy Scouts — the program for 11- to 17-year-olds — will now be Scouts BSA."
I would he happy with some girls around. You can still do all that stuff. Just overreacting from the right. I mean: "Maybe this sort of repression is one reason young men suddenly become murderous and want to shoot up schools?"
Back in my ancient history it was really relevant, now not so much. It might be old fashioned since the new thinking is PC stuff, inclusion, gender issues and all this other stuff. Like comfort Dogs and Peacocks.
Age 11-13 you wouldn’t want girls around, 14-15 its awkward competing in all those activities (Imagine your ego when a bunch of girls are competing with you), the girls kick your butt because they are larger, more mature and win and your male peers give you crap about being beaten by a girl.... you know that would deflate your ego. Common sense stuff to me. Makes no sense. I think if you turn back time you’d agree.
Now, if there were some separate organizations to mix say coed, non school, non club member only, non religious, non race, non agenda based, non competitive that might make sense. High School gets clicky at that age and people seem to drift off into smaller groups, I hated all that social snobby separation of the stoners, the socials, the races among themselves, the dumb, the smart, the in between, etc. Fast times at Ridgemont High stuff. But no girls equal Phoebe Cates at my School. Well, maybe 2.
I spent 15-16 practicing music after school as I thought I was going to be a Rockstar...lol. I left at 17, got a diploma but never returned to attend graduation ceremony as I was independent, driving a beat up car and partying and started work full time and rehearsing band, playing music and hated that organized school b.s. Never went back to that stupid place. Not one reunion.
Had I not been in Boy Scouts I don’t think I would have done some things I learned. Awhile back I taught one of my friends to Swim, she never had any lessons, all the drown proofing exercises and floating stuff to get over her nervousness. Stuff like that you learn. I got the aquatic lifesaving badge. Would be clueless if not for that. Positive stuff.
Those shooters were most likely never in Boy Scouts.
Trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty brave and reverent. Maybe I missed one. Memorized, first time recall from 40+ years ago reciting them. No I didnt google it.
