Irma will take out a few Caribbean islands too. Anyone in FL (JB?) -batten down the hatches or get the hell outta dodge!
It's frightening to see how much science denial is out there lately. And not just climate.
Much less casualties in the Harvey compared to the Katrina Hurricane, so it appears people are heeding to the warnings.
Many reasons for people not leaving, despite warnings:
Some people are fearful that their property will be vandalized.
Some may think that a calamity won't happen to them.
Some can't leave for various reasons (physical, emotional etc.)
Some don't leave because of costs or have no family to go stay at.
Some are downright stubborn.
Some get paralyzed by the anxiety of an approaching big storm... not knowing what to do.
Then you have opposite situations such as this: The Texas Gov. Greg Abbott
encouraged residents to evacuate low lying and coastal areas, even if a mandatory evacuation order had not been issued.
Yet...
As Harvey submerges Houston, local officials defend their calls not to evacuate...

So... One says to evacuate and another says NO. Not easy to decide.
Also it seems that weather reporters are getting better at warning of the grave dangers of these massive storms, than they used to.
