My reply was aimed that a sign that says 'shoplifting' would at least make some sense. The robbery one doesn't.

Here in American we heard it was a strong arm robbery over and over and over. So it wasn't a miss interpretation.

To anyone outside the United States, this is absolute insanity. Plenty will rush to defend it or explain it away. That this sort of thing is even on the table, though, is insane. History books (assuming we have history books in the future) will look on this and ask "how could Americans let it happen?" The same thing we used to ask about Germany when I was in school.
