No, I never said that. Its an employment thing as I donโt like what happens to small businesses, like local retail. They canโt compete and employ most of the shrinking middle class. Whoever is left have become the demonstration rooms and showcase for people to walk in, touch and feel product, ask questions, then exit without buying it and take a photo on their iPhone and order it for $0.50 cheaper on Amazon.
Depends on the product. Amazon is great for Commodities with name brand or consumables, I get it. But so much has become a commodity, sure lots of industrial or medical niche products wonโt sell on Amazon ever.
It was nice to walk in and shop, when Borders Books and Music existed, and Tower Records had large inventories of VHS-Beta, LPโs, then later CDโs and DVDโs, Music Plus, Licorice Pizza, all are gone.
Sure technology helped the consumer with the App store lets you preview music, something that sucked with LPโs, no return policy.
You are too young, but for example to buy a component Stereo in the 70โs, it was really hard to find them to compare. Like one Stereo specific big box store- Federated, only hand full of small retailers with mostly high end. Then 80โs came all the large chains and competition, donโt recall all the names like Circuit City bought up. Then later Best Buy and the sales clerk moronโs who know nothing about the products. Then came boom boxes and integrated units with crap quality except like Bose. Used to have a few with knowledgable people even and good prices. In stock, immediate delivery. Amazon adds no value to the equation in this sort of purchase as you canโt try before you buy while at the store. Amazon should just open stores, then it will revitalize retail and if they have knowledgable people, then it would come full circle, and have better stuff to compete with Target and Walmart.
Now, I went on eBay and see my Pioneer Stereo Receiver is a collectors item, worth more now than when I bought it.
