Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

A good laugh

Or buy a scratch-off for $2.99 :D
You have more chances of winning their top prize than flipping a .tel

Hillarious:lol:There is no doubt that this thread is funnier, and more informative than other attempts at domain industry comedy. "Everyone is here "

Come on every one join in, its the new comedy central. Those Canucks what will they come up with next

I think the main thing with .tel is choosing domains that fit the extension.. It's important for most extensions also, but for .tel, I think it's one of the most important factors... For intstance, I own these types of .tels--- TechSupport.tel
ServiceTech.tel
LiveHelp.tel
I think domains that utilize keywords concerning the above types of services will be the domains that can someday be monetized....I think limited segments of the .tel market will see the fastest growth, namely those domains which are already connected to the phone/mobile device area of the market..

A similar argument was made for .mobi.

With the renewals coming up soon, (just got my 60 day reminder)
I'm just curious to know how many of you are letting some/any/all drop?

Weeding them out and keeping what you term as "your best" just in case...?

I'm keeping my geo and my health .tel's and dropping "OMG I can't believe it was available" ones!

I just submitted NewOrleans.tel to Domainer Mardi Gras auction coming up in ... New Orleans!

If someone attending the conference was clever enough they could probably figure out the right city officials or local investors to pitch it to, show up a day in advance and establish the ROI they could make before the auction even takes place. now that's what i would call a no risk investment.

i purchased a stack of "keywordcategory".com domains and then URL pointed them to keyword.category.tel "webpages". its so simple to setup a page in .tel

the search results with google will list all the subdomains for that category. the .tel pages are all treated as unique. think about it.

Real World Projection

2010

First family reunion. Current phone & emails collected at event (including .tels)

2019

Family Reunion II planned for 2020. You volunteer to update contact list for invites.

Except for .tels, good luck with that.

[Anticipating: What about the family members who dropped their .tels during the intervening nine year period?]

Excellent question!

Answer: Maybe they could have made better use of capital allocated each year for three or four "premium" cups of coffee at $4 a serving.

Just saying...

Wow, what an argument.

What users should have done addresses this problem how?

There is so much that must happen to get .tel over and then maintain the integrety of the data.

- People must see a need for a central point of contact.
- There must be a willingness to pay a yearly fee.
- The data must be kept up to date by the user.
- Once given out, profiles can not be allowed to drop.

If even one of those links break, the whole thing comes crashing down.

As for the first point, not everyone on earth have to see such a need, and imo I´m sure there are many who will. Its also aimed at small and big companies, at different kinds of services.

Its allready proved that people and companies are willing to pay a yearly fee.

You have a point about the data.
But as .tel becomes known the majority of people and companies who use it will likley keep the important parts up to date.

But to draw the conclusion that it all will crash down?
Itsn't that very drastic and unrealistic expectations? That the whole thing would crash if some people did not update the data :)

Does facebook or the internet crash just because some webpages is not updated.
If its not used and updated it will probably expire and thus disapear from searches.
Also this can and will ofcourse be taken into account in searchengines.

Giving mine a few more years... This is about where I figured I would be a year later.. Making good steady progress for a new domain type.

I am hoping somehow henri can implement the dotTel into Android Source or phone dialer. If that is possible we can have it automatically installed on the Android Eclair push.

Also looking forward to the oAuth... that will open a lot more doors and help with intergrating with Facebook and twitter.

Thanks MattheP, appreciate your comments

What do you think of TravelAgents.tel??

Fits the extension perfectly?? Had a few lowball offers in the last 6 months but decided to hold it for while longer..
