Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

Looks like the owner registered the name via Landrush, meaning selling it at a loss? I won't be disappointed, it is just one individual case, doesn't mean anything to the potential of .tel.
If MALL.TEL was mine, I would have waited at least two more years if not longer. The owner sold the domain much too early, IMO.

Sad to see one of the better .tel name selling for a relatively low price (even at a loss).

The owner saw the writing on the wall. Waiting would have only added to his losses. IMO.

I honestly belive that .tel is the only tld to be able to overcome .com in popularity and use among people.

All it takes is just a bit imagination of what .tel will be able to do and look like in the future say 1-3 years.

When .tel looks cool.

When .tel have a working local and worldwide search on each .tel with proximity search.

It will rock.

Just the potential for having a worldwide STANDARD for replacing phonenrs is extremly high octane.

If some domainers fail to realize that :)

Shit happens. If I'd known about this auction then I would have bid. The buyer got an absolute steal.

That prospect is even more remote than winning the jackpot :gl:

If there was a chance of domains replacing phone numbers, then it would have been put into place by now. There are numerous ways this could have been accomplished using .com.

One method would be for .com owners to keep a phone.txt file similar to robots.txt. Then you dial whatever.com, the phone takes a look at phone.txt, gets the number inside and then dials it.

If there are too many issues with that, then the .com registry could have implemented a phone number record for the DNS.

The potential has been there all along for this to work on .com, but has there ever been a demand for it? No. If there had been, it would be in place right now.

ok, here is what I will do with my .tel but not sure it work, I heard that for webmaster, it is possible to add a script in php that renders data entries of a .tel on a php page. I've seen this for contact on telnic demo.
But what if I could add all my directory on php, is it possible? Let me explain more.
You see, to update my php page that doesn't have any database or CMS, I have to FTP upload to my PC, open and edit with dreamweaver (add listings like name adress... of each company) then FTP back to server. Now the cool thing with .tel if it is possible is that I won't need to do these anymore but will be "dynamic" so just log in my telhosting account (edit, remove, add in respective category) and all will be updated automaticly on my php page in their respective categories too.

Is this possible?

I honestly believe that the moon is made of blue cheese and that a cow once jumped over it.

If you are after imagination, just read this whole thread again. It's had so much imagination, it's unimaginable. As for you future predictions, let me just break out Doc Browns flux capacitor and go back to the future.......ok back..... EPIC FAIL!

When .tel looks cool.

It will only look cool if it gets dropped into the middle of the Artic Circle. Then it will just look like frozen crap.

It will rock.

Only if they re-introduce stoning, then it might get rocked.
Just the potential for having a worldwide STANDARD for replacing phonenrs is extremly high octane.

Lighting a match near a fuel pump also produces a situation that is highly octane but why would you do it when you know better, there's no point to it, and everyone tells you it's just a waste of time.

If some domainers fail to realize that

I think the only people failing to realize anything are the dot tel fanatics, but hey..you are entitled to your opinion and it's not my money, so I say go for it. :)

Just my opinion.:zzz::p

So right now you are manually editing each directory page in Dreamweaver?

I assume you can hook your .tel directory up to your site, but you are adding an unnecessary step. It sounds like what you are after is an easy to use control panel to update your directory. There are plenty of free scripts for this. free directory script - Google Search

No I don't want a directory script, all I need is 3 pages to list contacts of less than 20 businesses each.

Sure it is.
Say your page is contact.php.
The php code in there would grab the DNS info of the default domain (say steveteva.tel) and would then display it on the page. What you'd do is check for non-terminal NAPTRs (i.e. links to subdomains) and wrap them in the correct URL. Say for example you've got a link to aaa.steveteva.tel. Then you'd make the URL link be "/contact.php?domain=aaa.steveteva.tel"

If the "domain" field exists, then use it to grab the info from it. If it doesn't exist, use the default domain. This way, people would be able to navigate down your .tel tree and never leave your site.

I tried but no contacts displays just:
Your webpage
More of your webpage

I did ftp lib in cgi and contact.php too then ftp contact-php.html, .css and .js files in root as describe in the read me file of zipped webmaster file.

New feature in the .tel specs: Long labels
Starting today, the TelProxy web interface supports the specification for long labels, allowing every type of contact record to be tagged with a label of any length in UTF-8 format.
You can see it in action at Tellipse® for example.

Imagine your business card where every piece of contact info can be fully described. The long labels don't need to be retrieved by .tel applications if not deemed necessary (e.g. doing a simple telname-to-phone# lookup doesn't need to retrieve long labels).

Front-end support in the TelHosting panel is forthcoming in by end of next week, assuming no major QA issues.
For developers: you add long labels by adding a TXT record with type ".tlb", version=1, and order and preference that match the contact record:
".tlb" "1" "100" "102" "this is a long label"

Today I browse one of my website .com that have a listing of businesses including phone numbers in plain text.
What was my surprise to see that on iPhone these numbers are automaticly converted into similar of .tel, you can click to call.

Is this making .tel obsolete?
