Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

Check out Webnames' "We're not the New Yorker" caption competition for their beautiful cartoon style .tel advert :)
No caption could save that ad.

The woman's sign in the ad is one that a realtor wouldn't use. If they are going to pitch something that claims to make signs better, then provide a better example of it's use.

What realtors are going to see in this ad is a woman who has stripped the sign down to just a web address. This is like having a sign that says "Remax.com" and no other contact method. Nobody does that, so I fail to see what the selling point is.

Seriously, the longer this .tel stuff goes on, the dumber people are getting.

I haven't read this thread since about page twenty when I realized that it was pointless. dot tel supporters will tel you it's the best thing since sliced bread, detractors (the ones I call sensible) simply putting forward glaring weaknesses of the extension which quite frankly, will probably never gain true mainstream acceptance, like most of the recently released extensions.

This particular thread his tripped into the outer limits of common sense and sanity in regards to presenting a logical argument from some members and it takes any value away from it.

At least I remember why I stopped reading it.

The dot tel domain will never gain true mainstream acceptance, if:

1.) There are only good .tel search engines, but no very good directories.

2.) You don't get a .tel search engine on every TelProxy, just like you get Google in your task bar using your PC or Laptop.

Because mainstrem users won't have dot tel domains, and won't be familiar with dot tel domains. Only telsters and businesses, etc.

They will only want to use .tel as a replacement for "dialing numbers", etc., not want to own them. (Mostly, not. There are always exceptions.)

So, those .tel's got to be found, by any "dummy", but: "go to" jeppa, and telpages, or gotel.me, won't be enough.
.
The .tel search engines, have got to be right under the users nose, always, just like Google.

FrenchTel, I like you, and you are right.

Another thing: the success of the dot tel domain, is based on good common sense.

And a lot of people are lacking common sense. It is not wrong, not have much common sense. And those people can't help it, not having, or not using common sense.

Again:

1.)
1 Anyuser wants to use Anytel at Anytime, from any laptop, pc, or handheld device.

2.) Anyuser has to know, where to go, to find .tel names (company.tel. doctor.tel, taxi.tel, escortgirl.tel, pizzabrighton.tel, etc).

3.) Anyuser does not know, what "jepaa", "telpages", "dottellfinder", "gotel.me" is, and how, and where to get access to them. Because Anyuser, is a "dummy, at first".

4.) Anyusers, have got the money, and all the money to keep tel going, will only come from Anyuser, if he uses the dot tel domain, respectively, from the businesses, that have adverts on the TelProxies, and from sponsors, who see, that it makes sense, to support .tel, because it gets widly accepted and used. Other money, from other parties, etc.
But if mainstream Anyuser, won't be using .tel, no money can flow.

5.) If Anyusers gets "put off" by the dot tel domain: No Go.
.
6.) If the dot tel domain becomes a no-brainer, and very cheap, for Anyusers, then: Big Biz, and (All Telsters, Providers and Users) = Happy.
.
Here another szenaio:
(Yes, people do make tipos, and that is why domainers buy domains with tipos...
Anyway, back to the subject:)

1.) Good .tel videos make people want to get a .tel domain.

2.) Good .tel videos make people to investigate in .tel, to learn more about .tel.

3.) And what comes next?: People see, that it will be difficult for others, to see and find their .tel domain. Nevertheless, that there are a few existing .tel search engines out there.

4.) If the video watchers are no-techies, they won't get a .tel domain. Or a few, of the non-techie watchers, will only buy one, instead of ten domains, intended.

So, the videos, are great, but there ars some other links missing, such as:
"search machines on TelProxies" and "professional looking and working .tel directories",

If you are a small business, or a socializer, you wan't your .tel domain name to get found.
If you realize, that finding your .tel domain name, will be troublesome, than that fact might prevent you, from buying .tel domain names.

You got make .tel a "Sell", and a "Buy", and not a "Putt Off, Dead End Street".

You see this gorgeous .tel video, but it stands at the end of the dead end street, with no further good options, or reasons to get that .tel, that won't get found.
Respectively, that will ony get found, if you use a Google search engine, with a related keyword, and a lot of luck, as well.
Where as, the .tel search engine, would only show you, what you want, and that is ".tel domain names, only".
That is why, the users should be directed to a .tel search engine, and not to a global Google search engine.

Any potential .tel buyer, who can conclude, that his intended purchase of a .tel name, makes sense, because his .tel name will be quick and easily found by others, will buy that .tel domain name, after weighing off the cons and the pros.

The techie and developer and the domainer buy .tel domain names, because they can do a lot of things with it, and know, that .tel is getting continously developt and improoved. So they take a certain risk, when buying .tel.

But other buyers just would buy a .tel domain name, so that they just get found more easily, and contacted more often.
The mainstream .tel users wan't no risk: Only instant value for money.
And if he buys a .tel domain, he wants, to see, that he is buying "value for money", NOW.
Not in a year, or two.

Put "whatever" .tel search engine on a TelProxy, for all TelProxies, and the biggest problem will be solved, and you can watch .tel take off, steeply.
.
The "Love Train" video is a fantastic video. And normally such good videos help sales.
But I do guess, it did not. Or not as well as it could of done under other circumstances.

It is quasi:
1.) Good video: not more sales / no additional sales / no effect on sales.

2.) (Good video) + (.tel search engine on telproxy) = Big success. Everybody want's a .tel.
.
People might be "tech-dummies", but not stupid.
.
We have got so far, with all the great .tel tools, directories, .tel search engines, educated people, that are capable to offer all sorts of troubleshooting, but have overseen to put a .tel search engine direct on the telproxy.

It is only a defective apperiance, we made, but can be corrected, respectively, added.

And it is not too late, but only high time to do it.
.
I just picked up this news:

Seriously, who still types in "www" before a web address?
Nobody does that, or they certainly don't need to.
And I fail to see the point of old fashioned prefixes (www. for example)
Completely unnecessary. Things move forward.

Well, I still do often. Many sites don't resolve without the leading www. or worse they display a totally different page

I can't say I've had that problem recently, at least not with a .com or a.tel.

Telnic's Roadmap Quasi Announces A .Tel Search Engine for TelProxy

.
Telnic's roadmap quasi announces a .tel search engine for telproxy.

And has been confirmed by Nadya Morozova.

Quote;
"Thank you for your suggestion, spline. Yes, definitely a search inside a .tel is on our roadmap, .tel Community | Roadmap

The first stage would be to release TelPages, the .tel directory search engine. Once we've done that, we can implement a search box inside a .tel domain to use TelPages but look inside this domain only.

I can't see why you'd enable somebody to hide the search box on their .tel, so I expect it'd be shown on all domains.

You also got me thinking: what if I search in your domain, and can't find anything. The search results page should probably also offer a link to telpages.com (opens in a new window) to search all .tel domains for my query. Do you think it's a good idea?"

I can't say I've had that problem recently, at least not with a .com or a.tel.

I see this a lot.

The DNS was designed to work in a fashion where the host names route traffic to the appropriate hosts. For example, mail.domain.com, ftp.domain.com, www.domain.com, etc., etc.

The webmaster of a site sometimes elects not to route traffic without the appropriate host name, or sometimes the error is due to an oversight by the webmaster, or for some other reason. If you are visiting a WWW (World Wide Web) host, it's not unreasonable to think that a WWW host name may be required. Many sites simply forward domain.com to www.domain.com or vise versa.

Of course, .TEL owners are unable to make changes to the DNS as this important functionality has been disabled by Telnic. :talk:

Dot tel domainers have contributetd in many different ways.
Though there does not seem to be a whole concept or strategy.
A few days ago, I concluded, that there are some „missing links“ in the chain, which should enable a seemless and flowing „user routine“.

This is what has been done and achieved:

1.).tel tools
2.)promo videos
3.)twittering
4.)promo blogs
5.)clarifying things in forums (finding answers to questions)
6.)buying and selling dot tel domains
7.)after some troublesome goes, making things work, at last
8.)getting experience, and know how, just by learning by doing
9.)quasi everything that had been anounced in the road map, had been achieved (some important tasks, mainly only by skilled developers)
10.)communicating with the registry, making suggestions, presenting ideas
11.)achieving things, and making things happen, that where neither planed, nor on the road map (3000 subdomains, etc.)

It would be good, if someone could quasi coordinate a few of these efforts and contributions, so that they might work in each other, hand in hand.

The missing link, I was mentioning, are the search engine entry boxes on telproxy.

Without having that available, many of these efforts and contributions, are less effective, regerettably. Because, to get a good „user routine“, both search engines (for individual .tel, as well as for any .tel) have to be, where they are needed: on telproxy.

The new videos are good: But mainstream mobile phone users won't only want to be using „myname.tel“ (henry.tel, nadya.tel, justin.tel, nizzle.tel).

They will want to go looking for those names, which they don't own personally, such as companies, or „casinogame.tel“, or „pokergame.tel“ or „onlinebanking.tel“, etc.

When the search engines „are real“, than „nizzle“ can show „user“ how to find „coolstuff.tel“. B-):bingo::talk::|
.
On another cool video, of course...
.
P.S.:
A few more thoughts:

The dot tel domain, can not be a "one size fits all" domain.

About the looks of .tel: If a person sayes, he does not like the look, then it is completely wrong, to go on, and say: "But, ..."
If a person does not like the looks, you will never be able to convice him with other arguements.
Because the fact, that a person does not like the looks of of "a face", is already a "dead end road". And you would be wasting your time, trying to convince him, to change his mind.
Of course: The beauty of .tel, is not his looks, but his technology. But what people see, at first, are just, what they can see, and what gives them the first impression.

Whoever tries to "skip" the design issue, will wast his time, if he does not come back to the design issue, and tries to improove the design.

Not liking the design of a domain, means, he won't want to use it.

Smart phones are a success, because they useful and handy and smart, and look cool, and you can customize the looks.
.
Make .tel look sexy, because that is what people nowadays expect: Everything that looks sexy, sells.
.

With our Internet routine (for .com. org, .net, etc.), we often start a task by using Google.

With using .tel, it would be practical, to work in the same way: start a task with a .tel search engine.

I have spinned this thought further, and have a concrete concept..., and have made a few screenshots.

But more about it, later...
.
Basically, what I am trying to say, is that we do know what search engines are available, and just get them through Google..

But the mainstream user with a "charlie.tel", would be completly lost.

So, the no-brainer would be, to delever him the search engine with whatever .tel domain name he will using. And there are two methods of doing this.

Anyway: Just do not forget, that we still have to build a bridge for mainstream .tel users, to be able to reach .tel.

Sure, we are there, and henry, and justin, are there too, but not mainstream yet.

As if everyone had forgotten to build that bridge...

How on earth do you ever want to make profits with .tel, otherwhise?
.
There are simply no bidges...
Till now, everyone, just found their own way and method to get to the other side of the river, or lake.
.
What we want, are no-brainer streets, paths and bridges. Otherwise, forget .tel. And it might hurt. But it is you, and Telnic for to decide: Either it gets all messed up, or we reach the promised land at last, with "telpages", and "bridges", and whatever else, it takes.
.

P.S.:
A word about .tel directories.

I do know, that there is a bunch of telsters out there, who have set up .tel directries.

Now:
One main thought:
For "company.tel", the biggest importance benefit from .tel is SEO.

And I say this, according to my formula: "3tel + 3com = 18 useful pointers to com".

It would be best, to give any interested company a free trial period of two months.

If they would want to keep their directory entry, they would have to pay minimum a fee/year of $250, for example.

Which means, that after two months, you are most likely to see some cash.
.
And from then, you can also get revenue from advertising, for those companyies.
.
