Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

Update on traffic

Just updating about traffic on a .tel

I'm currently working on the .com side of this project as the .tel has been ready for some time. While working on dreamweaver I got bored and decided to check out and see if I'm getting any hits. I have done 2 screenshots from G' analytics for anyone that wants to check it out.

Cheers

Jag.

P.S please don't post either of the domains

Since you have written an ebook on monetizing .tel, would it be a fair question for me to ask if you've found success in this area yourself?

that was a good one, i personally am firm about .tel and i know it will be beneficial in long run its not a short
term thing but then again it's why in the hell would i pay US$ 15 for monetization ebook when a person hasn't done
anything much on it him/her self.

people are just trying to make quick bucks with wild ideas for .tel some of which don't even make sense at this point in time, please take care its better to buy anything .tel name then buy something like this, once the real value on monetization comes on .tel i think everyone who goes to forums will automatically know what to do.

i praise people like

Mark
Freaky steve
Steve ( usrealestate.tel )

and off course the ( Henry and Justin ) for their continued support in understanding out needs and requirements to fulfill the domain to its full criteria, and many more whom i don't know for their commendable job on setting up free based services to give more interest in the domain rather then charging people for their services and making them run in the initial stages.

Thanks

Shahid

It's really really too bad that Google ads still keep in their algorithm the .tel as tel aviv, each time I visit this forum I see Tel Aviv ads. That's not fair! I know they have done small things for ranking tel but that's not enought.

Please post your advertising in the Advertising Forum.

Then without duplicating it here, post a link to it to inform people.

Hehehe! Nice one. Somewhat informative too! But, how do you plan to make money from the .tel? By people linking through to the hopstick website and then clicking an ad?

Cheers!

www.telsites.info is not an advertisement Mischiff - free tel directory and research tool !

It certainly is...it's not a .tel

You are telling people with a .tel to list it there...that makes it advertising
for your directory.

Start a "Here's a place to list your .tel" thread and link it here - don't post your site!

Mis_chiff as usual you are inconsistent in your moderation

a) even tho I ask ppl to list, thats secondary - it's a TEL resource for ppl to EXPLORE
b) why didnt you pull entries 5013, 5045 to name a few - these are not TEL urls either
c) totally disagree with your take on advertising !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mark

5013 is a tool for .tel stats

yours is a directory for .tel listings - while it may be informative and resourceful, it's not for the purpose
of enhancing the development.

It would be better served with it's own thread - you don't agree??

.Tel ad display protocol

*

In an effort to profit from our .Tel investments, and with the input of fellow Telsters, I designed the TelCartel Protocol - a standardized set of display advertising guidelines that are simple, scalable, equally suitable for directories and personal and business sites.

Advertising Revenue Challenges

Telnic imposed technical limitations and traditional web-based hypertext linking methods create challenges in .Tel. Some companies are developing โ€˜click thruโ€™ advertising systems whereby links embedded in .Tel sites, when clicked, take the end user to the advertised site. Unfortunately, early offerings can have long unsightly URL strings that clutter the site, improper placement of ad links, ad links that have unrelated connection to the domain and severe keyword overkill.

Is There a Better Way?

For many of us that donโ€™t have the time, money and technical expertise to design software solutions, we have to make the best use of the tools that come packaged with all .Tel domains. Iโ€™m almost embarrassed to say that those tools have been there from the beginning and that I am only just now seeing them for what they are and the power they enable.

So What Are These Power Tools?

โ€ข Creative use of text, and;
โ€ข Select placement of contact links packaged with every .Tel domain

The TelCartel Protocol includes self-defined text strings, select placement of contact links, combinations of text and contact links and strategic use of keyword customized text (made possible with the promoting.tel Quick-update tool).

The concept is demonstrated on our first directory โ€“ condos.tel. Directories are prime candidates for widespread adoption and over time, potentially significant profit centers.

TelCartel Protocol (ver.1):

โ€ข Home page headers are designed to welcome the user and reinforce/ confirm the sites content. Header โ€˜tagsโ€™ are never placed on the home page
โ€ข Maximum of 20 directory links on the home page
โ€ข Maximum of 2 custom text units on the home page
โ€ข Maximum of 1 header tag in any sub-folder
โ€ข First 2 contact links in any sub-folder are reserved for the advertiser that purchased the header tag โ€“ โ€˜Tagteamโ€™
โ€ข Maximum of 20 directory links (or 12 contact links in sub-folder 1 as reqโ€™d)
โ€ข Maximum of 12 contact links in sub-folder 2 (hierarchical pricing)
โ€ข Maximum of 3 contact links per person in sub-folder 1 (or 2 as reqโ€™d)
โ€ข Sub-folder 1 or 2 โ€œown-the-pageโ€ exclusives are available on a select basis
โ€ข 3 or more sub-folders triggers reconfiguration (.Tel a/or Tel.com)
โ€ข Administrator review of all text prior to placement
โ€ข ad units shall be totally and contextually relevant to the domain or subfolder

Ad Units and Placement Rules

Header โ€˜tagsโ€™: Header tags are text strings positioned at the lower portion of header separated by at least 1 open line (new paragraph) from the introductory text above.

Directory links: are created by the Administrator in concert with the .Tel domain subject and target audience.

Contact links: are the native contact options (phone, web, email, fax etc.) available in the contact information section in the Telhost control panel.

Custom text units:

โ€ข includes a descriptor label and up to 255 characters of text
โ€ข positioned in the keyword section
โ€ข Telnic induced ad-hoc rotation

Here are 2 example sites, our display advertising and another providerโ€™s click thru version. Be sure to test both of them on your computer and on your mobile phone.

Our site: Condo.tel example: condos.tel >> Toronto >>> downtown

NOT our site: Cosmeticdentist.tel: cosmeticdentist >> kims-cosmetic-dental-studio675-to-n-m-plastic-surgery764 >> lynn-duncan-permanent-cosmetic720

Profits from .Tel display advertising will only be realized if:

โ€ข Substantial traffic is generated and;
โ€ข Advertisers can measure and verify traffic statistics.

In order to be taken seriously as a bona fide advertising vehicle, the TelCartel Protocol must incorporate professional tracking and reporting systems. Weโ€™ll continue to test several products to find the one that best extrapolates information from .Tel domains.

Summary:

As part of the TelCartel Protocol, I created an advertising spreadsheet that describes the condos.tel site elements and the number of ad units available to be sold to advertisers broken down by page and sub-folder. If youโ€™d like a copy hit me up at sercom at gmail dot com.

We are still very early in the game. Only time and mass end user uptake will dictate which systems work best and ultimately generate profits. It is my understanding that Telnic and others are looking at this as well. It would be great if they all dove-tailed into a best protocol solution (or variations) for all Telsters.

All questions, comments, constructive criticisms and rants and raves are invited.

As far as I know and you recall there is only one .tel thread at namepros.

Yes, currently there is one main thread - and advertising the listing services offered by your directory
for .tel users isin't the same thing. Free Resources or Advertising (since it's new) would be the place for it.

You aren't changing the "Development" options of .tel - you are offering a service for them to be listed.

There's still many .tel owners who haven't joined the namepros .tel fan club.
Those who still haven't joined here's the link - http://www.namepros.com/groups/18-tel-owners.html

Good news - Tel owners group is currently the leading social group at namepros with Max members, Discussions and activity :)

Tel owners let's get united B-) see you there!

Nice one -- that will be the highest I've seen for a .tel domain.

Has anyone seen other .tels go for more (verified sale)?

If the owner of heineken.tel was going to buy such a well known trademark they might have wanted to have at least taken five minutes and placed something on it that had to do with the other meanings related to the word. The usage that they have allowed simply shows that they have not taken the time to read any WIPO case law or recent domain/trademark law.

Serious domainers, tel or otherwise, have been avoiding trademark domains for years.
