Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

I see Google Voice a lot more similar to .tel than myspace...

but I guess that .tel will be nice to put on your business card if you have no established website for your business and want something simple and a presence on the web for your business.

Not sure if I really want to get into this game, but dont want to take a chance on missing out. :)

I think you already missed out. The best names were had already.

A profile and a .tel are not apples and oranges. Both are set out to accomplish the same thing.

No they are not, you can create all the profiles you want on all the sites you think are cool. The .tel is not social networking, the .tel is pure and simple, an easy access to contact info. Nothing more, nothing less.

I could only see the myspace thing working if they could make it possible to download your friends list in one easy step but then you get into some real massive privacy and security issues.
For myspacers I would think it would be more of a vanity thing with limited potential.

With the web constantly evolving, users are looking for bigger and better things. Who knows what web 3.0 will look like :)

I don't think myspace users will adopt .tel, they can do the same thing on their profile and it also looks better :)

I agree with Steve. From a business standpoint, if a business has no presence on the web, a .tel would work nicely. However, a business with a web site likely has their info. already listed via the contact page. There is no need for a site separate from what they have.

Still searching for the live myspace advertisements, (not for mobile users) for regular users anyone seen anything substantial.

I've seen the webnames.ca advertisements but nothing real in myspace yet...

FCR*tel

Check out how I branded this three letter (LLL).tel

http://www.FCR.tel

Let me know your thoughts,
If this really is how you hope to one day monetize it...

"All Premium Calls & SMS transmissions are a one-time $2.00 toll fee."

... not gonna happen. Why should I pay $2 to connect a phone call when I can just go to Equifax.com or Transunion.com and very easily get them for free?

One can't actually develop their .tel. You'll probably see some info. plugged into an example and them explaining its benefits. I can't see .tel succeeding within myspace. You can do a lot more with a myspace profile than you ever could with a .tel, not to mention a profile is free as well ( hey, that rhymed :D )
Maybe that's what they'll do, maybe it's not. It is possible though that they are populating it, like everyone else, to get it started, while their developers are working away at builing interfaces to their profiles and the dot-tels they are selling to their users.

It seems VERY advanatageous to MySpace to try and sell you yourmyspaceid.tel with a bunch of features tied into it. Examples of these types of features could include:

- Synchronizing your profile info with your dot-tel
- Keeping friends updated on your non-MySpace contact information
- Managing contacts to enable MySpace use beyond personal profiles

MySpace has the resources to create very interesting dot-tel based applications. If they can see a value for their user base, they will do it and sell all of the dot-tels to go with them. Sounds like a nice way to turn freeloading MySpace users into paying customers with the addition of potentially expanding their user base.

For them, you still keep your MySpace profile and use their site, plus you use your dot-tel for all of it's advantages.
For you, you get to use your MySpace profile with all of it's frills but also get to use non-MySpace profiles and contact points for your friends, family, business associates, customers, colleagues, etc. etc.

Sounds like one of many easy match-ups for dot-tel and the benefits it carries.

It Is very important to have a dottel only search engine which only indexes .tel domains. People who just want to search contact information search from dottel only search engine. Hopefully Google can do this kind of search engine.
You can already get phone numbers and websites on Google. DexKnows.com has also been running an aggressive ad campaign. Not to mention YellowBook.com. I can't imagine limiting search results to people who have paid $x to be listed.

Besides, you can already search by extension on Google:

Type Tahiti Ecotours in Google and I come out #1 as dot tel, this is incredible, also I havent submit to google or anything else.
What is so incredible about ranking #1 for a term that gets ZERO monthly searches? And that's even in the broad setting.

This would also indicate that MySpace is actually developing their dot-tel and are planning to use it, as opposed to strictly protecting their brand as some people have suggested.
I love when filling out some web forms is referred to as development.

But what I love most is the guy on here offering to fill out .tel profiles for $30. I thought it was a spoof site at first, but it is indeed real.

Do you think 3 letter dot com will be the first dot tel to benefits of increasing price for aftermarket as soon as all gone? I can see it is getting less and less available everyday.

I can't see 3L .tel's doing well. What would someone do with zqw or even something realistic like adf? Sure they could be abbreviations for a business, but that's a long shot.

It's difficult to tell, but more than 1000 LLL.tels have been registered so far this month already. About half of all available LLL.tels have been registered.

At this point. I don't think dot Tel will materialize and those that think they should register to take a hard look at the economy of the world and the domain market, and how dot Tel can't be monetize.

It's going to be hard to monetize. I can't see many people paying to have their info. on a .tel.

How do you know that, have you tried to monetise some yourself? It's all speculation at this stage, nothing more.

You just answered your own question. "It's all speculation at this stage, nothing more"

I agree it's speculation. I said "I can't see many people paying..." not "nobody is going to pay..."
