Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

^ Awesome video!

I think that girl would remember ben.com or ben.net also. After couple of months, ben will be only able to register ben_d456.tel . Memorable like any tel number :)

I only tried for 8 and got 3 through Dynadot

Muscat .tel (capital of Oman, population 680,000)

2 short names

Lyn.tel
Bev.tel

I notice a couple of my others were take by Dynadot, #$@@##@%^^

I got most that I pre-regged, some losers, but some winners as well.

sfo.tel ( live )
sjc.tel ( live )

TaxiCab.tel
Limos.tel
Shuttle.tel
autorent.tel ( best available )
BayArea.Tel
winetours.tel

Check out my partly completed site gdconf.tel - using .tel to host a mobile schedule site for a the game developer's conference in SF - meant as a promotional vehicle for the airport extensions.

Also got some geos, some gambling and some adult, and some vanity names and some development options ( with a companion .mobi, etc. )

I wasn't going to buy any, but
I found Penticton.tel available and just had to have it :p

I opted to catch up with an old friend of mine rather that plunge into gold-rush within the initial minutes, so aside from the first name below I failed to grab anything extraodinary. I'm skeptical about .tel's future, but at just $10.99 a pop on opening day I couldn't resist:

Hookup (*) tel
Debate (*) tel
Darts (*) tel
Remodeling (*) tel
Technicians (*) tel
PatentLawyer (*) tel
BrainSurgeon (*) tel
Theta (*) tel

no $, no name

Client.tel was available to register only a week or two ago, which I really wanted. That could have possibly been mine if I had any real $$$ :( I might register a few .tel domains before I stop registering altogether later this year. The tld at least looks and sounds decent, but I'm uncertain about its overall practicality. Reading this thread has been quite interesting, I'll continue to do so. And congrats on your .tel registration mis, glory to Canada :tu:

Well, looks like I'm not getting the one I wanted (my first name - arthur.tel) as Dynadot is listing the status as "problem".

If they give it to someone who has the same name as me fine, but I'll be pissed as shit if they just give it to some random person. Would have been awesome to have my name.tel, that's all I wanted. I didn't go around pre-ordering other rare names.

Sigh... There's nothing else I want as I just don't care for this extension other than for personal info.

I registered a .tel domain like an hour ago on Moniker and the status said successful and when I go to Telnic.org to the whois section it shows my info for the domain but the status shows Pending Create. Does that mean it isnt locked into me yet? Is there a chance it could get rejected and I wont own the name?

It's amazing...

You can leave the domain game for 6 months, a year... come back and find yet another new extension rolling out, firing up, and promising a great future, while scooping in the dollars for new registrations... mostly coming from "domainers" / domain speculators.

Then you can leave again, or just wait, for another 6 months or year... and there's another new extension.

Wait another 6 months or year... and so on... and so on...

There's never a shortage of dreams for sale.

In the end, most fail... but we keep lining up begging the registrars to take our money.

That being said -- I haven't paid much attention to .TEL so I haven't formed a specific opinion yet. I wish those who invested, good luck.
No doubt. I've bought a couple but don't have my hopes up. Every time there is an extention released there are always a group of people who say its different from all of the others that didn't do well.

All the domains registered recently are showing "pending create." You should be safe with your acquisition.

I just noticed this on my whois also, so I went back to the email -
On the order receipt is says
Status: Registered
and this
The domain(s) penticton.tel has been registered. The domain(s) has been placed into your account. Please sign in at http://www.XXXXXXX.com/account to set your name servers.
I might try to change the nameservers and see what happens...

Just tried to change the nameservers and got this
Set Name Servers for Selected Domains secure page
Could not save settings.

* penticton.tel: Cannot set name servers for TEL domains

.travel is doing suprisingly well for the size of the extention, IMO its the PROPER way to slowly release brand awareness, check out my post of the top 1 million.

Fake sales and all?

The .tel investors that will make money are the ones that follow the early .mobi domainers. Buy early and get out early.
