Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

Great conversation everyone. I am glad people are staying away from attacking one another. Perspectives from both sides can surely be beneficial. Keep it up!

If you play your cards right, I am sure you can recoup that $100 and many more $. Good luck with your investment and thank you for sharing :)

I can maybe see some kinda use for some .tels, but I agree with Whitebark, it's not a money making extension. And from the 'business card' standpoint, don't see that as a money making thing either! One can tell a prospective their web address the same way, no matter what the extension! What I do find interesting in this .tel craze, is that the 'majority' of noted members discussing, cheering on, and investing heavily, in these .tel threads seem to be newer members overall. ("this is my .com time!!") So, from my standpoint... good luck to you all in this! And I wish the best to those who jumped in because it's been touted by one as 'highly brandable'! (not the reason for investing in this extension!)

No need for attacks, .tel speaks for itself and there are those that can see huge potential and those that can't... I do respect people not wanting to invest in it, they are obviously very conservative and pessimistic of new extensions, as I am too, apart from this one, but the problem of not being able to control the site in terms of making it a website, are positives in my view for what .tel is designed for, but I can understand some pople having a problem with this and the fact that they can't park for a few cents a click with it.

It's amazing...

You can leave the domain game for 6 months, a year... come back and find yet another new extension rolling out, firing up, and promising a great future, while scooping in the dollars for new registrations... mostly coming from "domainers" / domain speculators.

Then you can leave again, or just wait, for another 6 months or year... and there's another new extension.

Wait another 6 months or year... and so on... and so on...

There's never a shortage of dreams for sale.

In the end, most fail... but we keep lining up begging the registrars to take our money.

That being said -- I haven't paid much attention to .TEL so I haven't formed a specific opinion yet. I wish those who invested, good luck.

Good catch on Rum... I tried pre-order on that one on like 3 different registrars.

Haha, many are aware of your relationship with the highly brandable Sir Jeffrey.

Interesting and valuable perspectives.

I agree 100% with this statement. We have seen this with .eu, .asia and .mobi. Everyone should be careful what they register and take care of their budget.

However, there are serious and experienced domainers that have a stake in .tel. They are not doing it for the buzz, but because they see its potential. Good luck to them and good luck to all.

Yeah Rum.tel was a good one but I really like Pot.tel. Sooner or later it will be bigger than rum! :)

Yes, i was seriously considering a landrush on rum.tel but just couldnt see any sense spending that much on it (for me anyway), although for a GA aquisition, woulda been primo!

sorry forgot to post this 4 hrs ago i didnt check my email mark :(

Hi All

First, thanks Shahid! I should get myself a namespro account! Re, green
check mark chaos! We had a batch of about 700 names that we wanted to
double check, hence revoking them back to pending and now back to green
check mark!

Sorry for the confusion all, but we would rather be sure, than release
your card payments for something you haven't had! It took about 20 mins
to run the check, so apologies if we skipped a few heart beats whilst we
did so!

Any other questions [email protected] or call us. You will get
an answer by return. All statuses are now final!

Thanks all and once again apologies if the re-check caused some
confusion! Mark

thehof.tel ?

heheh no it wasnt hasselhoff !

What do you think something like that is worth?

yes it is who you think it is.

Probably nothing - how would you monetize it, except offer it for sale to the name owner - and that would be direct proof of baid faith registration (google for wipo/udrp).

The ways to make revenue with this extension are greatly limited compared to other extensions. I think the smart and hardworking people will succeed.
That is an understatement. Until the early 1990s and the rise of the WWW domain names were simply not valuable. I think people are quick to ditch the web functionality. That's what made domain monetization possible. People are going to learn the hard way.
Why bother with domains that are not profitable or don't enhance your business. It's not the veterans that are conservative, it's the telsters who want to live and breathe the Internet as it was in 1989 :snaphappy:

Why will it succeed? It's neutered. It gives less options than other recent failures but somehow it will surpass them while being handcuffed?

Not only are you crippled on what you can do with it, your potential avenues of actually making money (the reason we are all here after all) is extremely limited. Sorry, but .tel is doomed to be lumped in with .name, .travel .et al.

Think of it this way - you can have a shop in a crowded mall or a storefront way out in the rural areas of town with only one road in and out, limited parking and restricted hours. Which do you choose if you actually want to MAKE MONEY? The choice is obvious.
.travel is doing suprisingly well for the size of the extention, IMO its the PROPER way to slowly release brand awareness, check out my post of the top 1 million.

.telme! :D

Has everything quieted down? It seems less chaotic now.

Here's what I lost through GA:

1. Treatment.tel - this is probably the one I wanted the most
2. Surveys.tel - Great name with companies ready to pay.
3. IncomeTax.tel - just found a suitable replacement a second ago.

Here's one I just registered 5mins ago from my shortlist:

eFile[.]tel

I'll tell you about the others a little later!
