Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

It's still amazing to me just how many names have gone at $300 - $400 in landrush..quite phenomenal! Quite smart of telnic to do this really, they must be making quite a packet of cash already. :lala:

And I, for one, have no problem with Telnic earning a profit.

They have been in existence since 2000, with absolutely no income until now.

This, in itself, reveals their level of commitment to the future of this TLD.

I do admire the smartness of telnic but not sure about the innocent crowd chasing the mirage.

But it's a day or so before GA, and it's not like anyone else was going to landrush telsters.tel...so even if he/she has some "master plan," why not wait a day and save $300??

Nonsensical.

I caution to 'never say never', especially with new internet developments.
I predict that .tel will represent a 'sea change' in information exchange. A simple directory - maybe.
'Possible' does not mean 'likely'. In in the end it's all about critical mass.

With that spirit on the eve of GA, I guess .tel registration will hit the mark of 2 million within a week. Is the history of .mobi repeating itself? :]
Every new extension has followers and newcomers :sold:

Sometimes people don't learn until they are given the opportunity to make mistakes. A wise person learns from his/her own mistakes, while a genius learns from the mistakes of others :tu:

I'll bump this thread in 3 years :hehe:

Whats the point of holding Manchester.Tel if you can't even have some sort of ads there (or can I?)? The only thing you have is just a contact information on Car Rentals/Airport/Schools/Clubs etc. Or it supposed to be like with Hotels.Tel? Companies pay you monthly/yearly to be listed there? How big does Manchester.Tel advertisement program needs to be before someone could achieve such goals?

Sometimes it's best to think outside of the Google box.

One of .tels greatest attributes is that it offers one or two click instant connectivity to an actual person, switchboard or automated phone attendant. If we assume that premium generic keywords will generate some level of phone traffic, the question becomes whether that traffic can be monetized in a way that will earn a profit.

You can always opt to jump back into the Gbox by "tethering" a second URL link within your .tel contact information. If a premium generic .com domain receives 1,000 type-ins per day, what percentage of traffic may potentially trickle down to the .tel companion page link? Right now, that's an unknown, but it's unlikely to be zero. Better yet would be to automatically launch the companion page as a popunder site on non-mobile devices.

Of course, those with more of a bankroll can drive traffic to their .tel pages through text ads as well as more traditional forms of broadcast, print media and other marketing strategies. It seems to me that the point of diminishing returns is not yet even in view. In the end, isn't the question simply whether you have any money left over after you've paid for the cost of bringing customers through your respective virtual doors?

That's not a TLD specific question, it's just business.

Hi Phase 111, I meant to answer you for the past few days, because I think that you said the most interesting and insightful sentence on this forum for the people who are still wondering where .tel is in relationship to any other domains: "ICAAN will not approve another similar domain using the dns for a similar purpose, this has been stated by ICAAN itself, so we dont have any worries there". If this is true, I will make many people angry to say that the .com doesn't seem that special anymore all of a sudden. For those of you who don't realize what is taking place in front of your eyes, don't kill the messenger. I will go away for the next few days to take a closer look at GA, but please keep this forum going because many of you guys seem to be very smart and interesting people....

I thought in view of your fantastically long post, that it might be easier to post above it, lol....
Where to start... firstly, this would rate as the most interesting and inciteful posts on this thread so far! What I find interesting is that you are a well educated professional person who hasnt had much experience with domains before, who has seen the huge potential for .tel. This is a sure sign in my view that many non domainers will share the same view of .tel. I have actively been getting feedback from non domainers about the .tel concept and many have said it's a great idea and they would consider buying one...the Spartan .tel page does not phase 99% of the folks I have spoken too, they mostly share the view that simple and plain is best.
My points before I forget: ICAAN will not approve another similar domain using the dns for a similar purpose, this has been stated by ICAAN itself, so we dont have any worries there. Regarding the years it took for approval- many domainers are quick to gun down ICAAN for being money hungry and greedy- in my view, perhaps some of this is true, but I'm impressed in a way that they wanted to ensure the long term success of the .tel domain by getting telnic to comply with stringent requirements before allowing .tel to be approved.
I have also not been as excited about a domain before- I think it's the potential for words instead of numbers idea and also the fact that like you say, paper phone books days are numbered.
Your argument about having a .tel and a longer .com is something I hadnt even thought of but actually does make sense..my only question regarding the bigger than .com idea (where folks go to a .tel first) is will people want to click twice or more to get to the .com and Im still on the fence about this one, however, texting on a cellphone seems far more laborious a task in my view so who knows...the click to connect feature is also very powerful and fast.
P.S. did you say $70000? (I feel much heavier in the pocket now, lol)

Hi guys/gals, just curious if that gap between words in the folder headings is going to be sorted out? Its just doesnt look very nice when you have "Northamerica", without a space and with the "a" being in lower case.

Has Justin mentioned this at all, I havent read the whole thread.

another thing, does anyone have a good letter template to send to potential clients regarding why they should list on a .TEL site, I have a basic letter, but it would be nice to get ideas from other .TEL pros regarding this.

Okay, I see.

If he has a stat counter on his dot.com, then it tells him where traffic comes from, so .tel would show up in his dot-com stats.

Forgot about that feature.

Thanks.
