Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

I appreciate the comments of the good doctor. Likewise I am new to domaining and I have put a good swag of money into .tel. I have far more domains on pre-reg than on reg (6:1) and have kept my average buy well under $100 at all likely pre-reg strike rates.

Have used the following methodolgy:

Vanity:

Names with only vanity value; search is not that important
Names with occupation: google, google allinurl, google allintitle, google keyword tool; broad, exact, phrase, Keyword Discovery analysis

Directory:

Top word in category: google, google allinurl, google allintitle, google keyword tool; broad, exact, phrase, Keyword Discovery analysis.

Second word in category: google, google allinurl, google allintitle, google keyword tool; broad, exact, phrase, Keyword Discovery analysis. Google ranking analysis.

General Business:

As for second word category.

Can anyone tell me how else to choose words better?

I am struggling with the previous comments on content being the main determinant of ranking within search engines. As a newbie, I may be missing something, but my investigations lead me to believe that the key factor is other sites pointing to your site combined with the quality of those pointing sites.

Now, the nature of directories is to have many sites contact details including their .com addresses. Now could not the subscibers sites include the directory .tel site's address. This could be made a condition of listing in the directory with the result that perhaps thousands of .com sites including all the leaders point to that .tel. Now wouldn't that .tel be the highest ranking site in that category? Is my logic incorrect? The commercial negative for the subscriber is that having found the .com why would they point their customers back to a .tel? For ease of access, up-to-date details and customer convenience in the .tel mobile plaform and because it is required to subscribe.

Please advise.

Thanks for your comments alien cafe. Similar to your domains I have: gynecologists.tel, obstetrics.tel, dermatologist.tel (and all variations on the subject), plasticsurgeons.tel, ent.tel, otolaryngology.tel, eyesurgeon.tel, eyesurgeons.tel, neurologist.tel, gastroenterology.tel, gastroenterologist.tel, hematology.tel, oncology.tel, nephrology.tel. doctorsearch.tel, healthsearch.tel, localhealth.tel, localsearch.tel, loca.tel, flu.tel, pediatric.tel, lasers.tel, medspa.tel, and a billion others it feels like- hopefully this weekend I will start working on some.

Hi Shahid- great to hear from you. Very similar to your domains or somewhat related I have only: dieting.tel, hybridcars.tel, alarms.tel, decorations.tel, dieting.tel, organic.tel and FOD.tel (for films on demand or food on demand)

thanks for your post Stepan, glad to hear atleast you did not make a bad choice buy getting all those domains, wish my spellings were good could have tried some xxxxxxxxxlogy.tel too:D hahah

anyways all i can say is you made good choice by investing it majorly in your field since there are 2 things in this world one cant live without

1) Food
2) Health check ups

It all depends on what you are going to do with them really. There won't be an after market for some time I believe due to the high reg fee for them in the first place. I would rate geo's and any "service industry" highly. If you have an umbrella domain it would make thimgs easier. Somethinh like the american.tel further up in the thread. You only have a limited amount of content so you need to get a hook that appears to be delivering the information the viewer is looking for.

I'm not sure about pharmacist.tel, gynecologist.tel, psychiatrist.tel, pills.tel, medications.tel, and obstetrician.tel

Would make sense to me if you have something like healthcare.tel (it's gone ) and link them.

With proctologist.tel you ass is out there with that one IMO :bingo:

I don't have any .tel currently as the price was too high. The .tels I am interested are still available and I don't see them being reg'd as they are very specific.

Thanks for the review! I felt that one word doctors names would be marketable because everyone in the population needs to find one at some point.

For example NY.Psychiatrist.tel with the top ten listings and phone numbers.

Yes proctologist is probably a little far fetched ! LOL

How about the Geos mentioned as well what's your opinion?

Regards-

i know some are saying there will be little to no aftermarket yet, but still i'm curious, has anyone tried to list a .tel on Sedo, Afternic, etc.? Looks like sedo does not yet have .tel listed in the dropdown box for extensions ...

... interesting though to discover that .gov is there. is there some private .gov aftermarket for bureaucrats? :?:

edit: also some of you might like to know that i've already received an inquiry on one of my geo.tel via email. has anyone else?

dermatologist.tel (and all variations on the subject)

This brings me back to an earlier post I made on dilution.

in terms of a directory service, imagine i'm a small business owner in the dermatology profession and next monday i get an unexpected knock on my door from a salesman for the revolutionary new dermatology.tel directory service. WOOT! i think to myself, sign me up!. Then tuesday theres another knock on the door and this time its from dermatologists.tel offering the same unparalleled service. wednesday, thursday, and friday, I get knocks from dermatologist.tel, skincare.tel, and skin.tel respectively.

the following monday i get postcard ads in my mail from rash.tel, skinrash.tel, ointments.tel ...

the question is what is your unique value proposition? (not a question directly to you Stefan but rather a question to all of us, including myself.)

reminds me of the movie There Will Be Blood

"ladies and gentlemen, if i tell you i am a .tel man you will agree. now i've traveled across half our state to be here tonight .. " :)

also though, i like geo .tel the most since theres no synonymns or tenses involved its not as much of an issue. Ultimately though whatever the case it will come down to the businesses you're serving seeing an ROI or not. And i suppose if i could improve my bottom line by getting my business listed with slkdflsj.tel then why wouldnt I?

Yes, have had three offers to buy on two specific .tels already, two offers for one starting at 3x more than I paid at landrush, but Im not keen to sell any just yet. Incidentally, I also have blackjack.tel, if any casinos are interested. Please send me your :$: offers.

I have Poets.tel (not live yet because of registrar).

As you can see from my siggy, I already have poets.net.

So why did I get Poets.tel (which, admittedly, has limited commercial use in terms of directory and indirect monetization possibilities, etc.)?

Under the Poets.net umbrella, I have links to different sites: a forum, a literary review site, and another specialized literary journal.

Although these links exist on the Poets.net page, I love the streamlined and consistent look of the .tel card--very user friendly and straight forward.

Poets.tel will be my editorial contact/links, Jennifer.tel my personal and professional (educator) contact/links, and Writer.tel my writer's contact/links. (Some of these will overlap, though I don't see that as a problem).

I think that .tel is set to become the standard mode of contact on mobile devices and, eventually, online, and I have put some money on the line. After GA begins and I know what I have acquired, I will explain why I believe this.

Could I be wrong? Possibly (there are never any guarantees in this life).

A lot of you disagree with me. That's cool. And I have heard both pro and con arguments.

Thanks, all, for your insights.

Yes, I have had one offer, but not on a geo.

What happens if somebody offers to buy your entire .tel domain. But you have already sold some folders? Would you
*sell it to them and just tell them they must retain the already paid for spots?
* Refund the spots that you have sold with the proceeds of the sale?

any suggestions?

That's an important issue.

Do the customers pay yearly? If, so, you (as buyer) should be required to honor past agreements, and there may even be a legal precedence for this.

Have you sold folders? a .TEL domain? Selling both seems like an extremely unlikely scenerio. Possibly beyond the reach of mathematical probability.

Thanks for your support and the opportunity of a free tel aftermarket site- it's a very nice idea Ms Domainer. I have writers.tel, authors.tel, publish.tel and interviews.tel, similar to 2 of your domains. I suspect I won't be in a hurry to sell many of my domains, but we'll see what happens....

You're a good sport, stefanb.

This can be a difficult thread at times, but it's worth listening to both pro and con aspects of .tel.

Your physician .tels have great potential, and Geos are almost always desireable, particularly in this TLD. Location, Location, Location.

I'll soon be announcing a free tel aftermarket site (and I'm sure there will be others as well), so you will have an opportunity to sell some of them.

;)
