Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

Got a couple of funny anecdotes to share with you all from today:

* My Dad left the house this morning carrying a copy of the Yellow Pages under his arm - he needed to take it with him somewhere to get a number later. Thought it was pretty funny, because in the past I think I've said, "people don't carry the Yellow Pages around with them!".. how wrong I was!

* I was looking after my niece/nephew this morning and my sister-in-law was complaining that because they live on the border between two different counties, the Yellow Pages that gets dropped on the doorstep is the wrong one, so she has to Google for a lot of things instead - but having the kids running around makes it hard to find time to sit at the computer and do this.

Oh and my 3 year old niece was finishing her sentences with "DOT COM!" the other day.. she had picked it up from a very repetitive commercial on the radio, so I've been teaching her to say "DOT TEL!" instead :kickass:

Everybody is an edge case :)

Now that's long-term branding! :kickass:

when I registered my domain (a dot tel) with Name.com I look at the registrar they have listed and it is showing domainsite.com (not Name.com)... Is this common? Domainsite.com doesnt even offer .tel last I looked. All my .dot coms show name.com for the registrar.

worried something screwy is going on here

Wow, incredibly ACTIVE thread! :yell:

The video link above highlights the highly brandable .TEL as a "communications hub" with quick & easy accessibility ... especially for those that are on their mobile devices, IMHO. :talk:

This fact may also be why my recent mTLD (".MOBI") Blog post was summarily deleted (in the relevant posted topic; "dotMobi says, "Why .tel?"") which basically stated:

The short, memorable, and highly brandable .TEL seems to be effective in offering quickly accessible and vital contact information for those that are out and about and "on the go"! :talk:
For full & rich content, personally, I would visit the .COM (while on the iPhone) ... or wait until later to use either a (the .COM on my) laptop or home or work PC, IMHO.

Therefore, to many, the highly brandable .TEL ... for those that are out and about and "on the go" and looking for fast & easily accessible information ... is a desired and more intuitive, memorable extension to the longer (including having two syllables) ".MOBI" extension, in my view. :gl:

Just my two sense. :imho:

Update: telfriends.tel has reverted back to the old page - Justin says it will be launched later this week. :red:

The telfriends site will be switched on later this week and just to keep you all posted, we're on track to go live by the end of the week according to the latest updates from our technical team. I'll keep you posted. It's good to see that Registrars are sending out credentials - however, some *may* not send out their credentials until GA.

Thanks,

telfriends.tel thats hot!

Took a look at the site, looks very professional.

Anyone who thinks this is not going to be a sensation is wrong. There is Chatter on myspace about dot tel already. .mobi and the others did not have this funtcionality. I think we all will be surprised at the success.
