Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

Probabely better off that you missed those.
Could have been a slight TM issue :hehe:

Yes, that's really sad...

It’s not sad. You should be happy that you missed them. They are trademarked.

I really like this one. Perfect for a .tel in my opinion. Like "taxis.tel".

Yes, this could become somewhat of a killer application. It's indeed a very clever idea to open the DNS to phone entries. As nobody needs to remember IP addresses thanks to the DNS, the same could become true now for phone numbers.
GOOG-411 does its best :) But yeah, I wonder if something like that is in the future. The idea is that your business cards don't directly contain your phone number anymore -- it's your .tel domain which contains privacy-controlled information about how to contact you.

It will be more interesting to take visitor direct to their IP location.
For example: Someone is looking for hotels in New York on their mobile, the .Tel page will take direct to New York hotels listing page or more specific location.
It will save critical time to browse around listings!

You can use it for career consultancy/planning, consulting business. Just an idea!

Sorry, but the very idea that some people are actually treating .tel as an investment just beats me.
Even a crappy .tk will get you a better return.

I do believe though, that you have to think a little more outside the box on this one.... Let your ingrained domaining ideas go...just a little.. :)
Thinking outside the box or wishful thinking ?

As a rule, I think the supporters of new TLDs tend to overestimate their capacity to influence the ingrained browsing habits of consumers on a significant scale.

I am ready to bet that you will be bitterly disappointed with your .tel experience.

I think geos will be very popular with this extension. When you get a paper phone book it is based on region first, and then keywords second. There are not very much pictures, and are largely text based. Selling ad space is the major monetization technique.

Oh, you lost it too? That was one of the very few .tel I was interested to buy during landrush. But I had no illusions: I suspect there must be... a few hundreds other losers! It would be interesting some day to hear from Justin statistics about names most applied for during LR...

Directory for jobs of course!

e.g. technical.career.tel..
nursing.career.tel..

The TLD is so new and it looks like they have alot planned for it. Way too
early to knock it. I always invest $200-$500 in new TLD's and have never lost any money. .ME/.INFO has definately made up for any .ASIA misses.

This could be good...

Yes I had it along with several other top names in DomainMonster SUNRISE.

Out of the 25 or so I had in my 'General Availability' Period.. Almost ALL are gone now. Pretty insane. Should have gotten in on a GEO of my state. Meh.
