Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

as mentioned before, you CANNOT modify the DNS settings of a .tel domain.

you cannot put unique content on it.... you basically use the same template as everyone else... for an example see http://Justin.tel

Are hacks any good? I personally like CanYou.tel and ICan.tel
I don't have the $$$ to register any .tel though :bah:

I personally would stay away from those types of hacks. The only hack worth registering is ho.tel IMHO but LL's are not allowed of course.

To be frank, such hacks would probably be lost money, so you were wise not to borrow! IMHO, there is certainly a niche for .tel for very generic names, especially if they are used by a company or organization, but not just that.

Despite the fact that I reged a few .tel (at least two successfully with Dynadot, waiting for the results of the other ones), I am cautious, and I would not have attempted to register .tel names that are not very generic (unless, of course, it is one's family name, or company's name).

Regarding the use of .tel with individuals, we will need to wait after landrush to see what the prospects are. If many people register them, then it will be what Telnic hopes to create. But there is no certainty at this point. Let's see, I am curious - I bought a few either for protective purposes or for risk investment.

Sorry, to clarify I knew that you can not point it to your own servers. I was looking to know when I could add my contact information and phone numbers etc.

MS Domainer- answered my question... can not update/add contact info page till 2/25

Question.

My pre-orders at Domain Monster have vanished... Which apparantley means that I did not get them...

However, the whois is not updated for .tel yet, so I guess I can't be sure??

Also, I just went to Dynadot for the first time... I signed up for an account and hand Reg'd a "super Premium" geo name. It accepted payment and says that it's mine and "locked". But, I still can't access Whois info for .tel. Can I assume this gem is safely in my hands??? :-/

Cheers!

It is certainly in your hands, Dynadot is reliable.
But just to be sure, do what I have done myself: make a screen capture showing your info, and keep it for your records...

Uh yeah. I was mentioning it because I think it's funny that
a industry heavyweight like Godaddy is not showing any interest
in .tel.

... or they are so sure that nobody will dare to grab it that they wait general availability... even big companies might want to save money, sometimes!

I just looked through the first few pages and skim read, counting how many .tel domains posters pre-regged. I got 29.
At $350 each (including the application fee) the total for 29 successful names would $10150. Imagine what you could have bought instead if you clubbed together...

Almost certainly not! Please don't throw any money away after these! I'll bet these are available when proper registration starts in 50-odd days. In fact I'll bet a charity ribbon- if I'm wrong, tell me which one to donate to and it's done! :)

Or they figured why waste the money at all when the contact
info is already listed at Godaddy.com ;)

I agree, this is the most likey explanation!

Although I would suggest the .tel interface would present visitors with a delightfully refreshing experience compared with the crowded GoDaddy webpage!

Whoo Hooo!

That's good news! Thanks!

I can't believe I was actually able to reg this name a couple hours after Landrush commenced!

Would you agree that a Geo name works well in this extension??

PS. I printed out a copy of the "Domain Info" from Dynadot members area for my records in case there's any funny business!

Yes, IMO, this would exactly be one of the best possible uses of this new extension.
