Hi

For this, let's assume that .tel will not be a total flop.

What type of keywords will be most valuable for this extension? Will it be geographical keywords, like newyork.tel, losangeles.tel, etc, or what else?

As I said, Iยดm making revenue each week from my small local .tel directory.

Not very much but it pays more than it costs.

Its a small directory and since the longtail of each folder shows on google eventhough there is not a single good link to it, it gets traffic.

If I would have populated it with more folders I would do even more. I will also get better revenue with the comming support for mobile ads.

Now that the ads on .tel are improved there is also the possibility to take custom ads on them from those stores since I have traffic.

There are now even tools for other to update their own folder on your directory.

Iยดm also on page nr1 on Bing with my itkonsult.tel (IT Consult)

How much is that worth for someone who is IT-consultant?
I could sell it today for atleast $1000 (Have a standing offer from my friend.)
But that would be stupid since it can generate years of work for me so its a no brainer to keep.

So yes, they do work. You just need to know how they work.

With the comming updates they are increasing in value.

Nr 1 for which keyword ? itkonsult ? :| Because your domain is nr 2 for me.
Means absolutely nothing because bing has a total of 2190 results for "itkonsult". It's extremely easy to rank well for a rare keyword with no competition.
Any TLD will do the job. (In fact, even parked domains can rank like that when they are exact match keywords with low competition, I have experienced that).

Now try ranking for a really competitive query. You will never achieve anything without a real domain name (and it's just the minimum required).

With the comming updates they are increasing in value.
Seriously, .tel missed the boat and the 2012 purge will confirm the stillborn status of that TLD.

Where is the value when the market is dead and .tel is not doing anything that you can't do with another TLD. Fact is, .tel will do less than a real domain name :talk:

That can be asked of any profession keyword. Where are the sales?

marketing.tel โ‚ฌ850
brokers.tel $600
webdesigner.tel $500
cop.tel โ‚ฌ175
detective.tel โ‚ฌ80
carshop.tel โ‚ฌ70

But that's alright, your domain is the exception. The one that is somehow worth thousands. Right?

Yellow Pages is something that still works even in the Internet era.
Let's talk about the revenue of .tel holders (or the lack thereof) shall we.

Only in an alternate reality :)

Sure, and let's talk about what you quoted, too.

"Yellow Pages is something that still works even in the Internet era."

Exactly, and if .TEL is a fraction of that, which it is already, it works too.

"Let's talk about the Revenue of .tel holders, (or the lack thereof) shall we."

Oh, So I haven't used my .TEL like a Yellow Pages Listing and received a Customer call that resulted in Revenue ? What reality are you in again ? And I didn't pay Yellow Pages 100X as much to get it either !

"Only in an alternate reality (is .TEL the .COM of Online Listings)"

The FIRST and ONLY Top Level Domain that publishes/stores directly to the DNS so that "Online Listings / Basic Information" can be read without interpretation software across all devices.

Yep - Definitely the ".com of online listings"

Seems like the "alternate reality" you speak of is the one outside your head !

:O

You mean your .tel got you ONE customer/lead ? If that is what you mean it's brilliant and speaks louder than traffic stats.

The FIRST and ONLY Top Level Domain that publishes/stores directly to the DNS so that "Online Listings / Basic Information" can be read without interpretation software across all devices.
In case you haven't noticed nobody cares or actually wants to store information in the DNS. What exactly does it bring to your bottom line in very practical terms. Nothing, because nobody queries the DNS for information.

At least you're addressing reality now.

More than one though, and more than you think.

With Facebook now dominating, what purpose could .tel serve?

Why do you think Facebook doesn't support this?

A) Facebook is stupid.

B) There is no demand.

:D

I think we can substitute .tel with Facebook, and it'd make more sense, no?

You can't burst my bubble man, my bubble has dns based contact points for a world of devices and communications protocols.

A "fad book" that attempts to copy a real communications tool isn't sharp enough to burst anything of value beyond the kindergarten club.

I just had 1 word premium .co's and 6-8 letter top .com's rejected by Sedo fast too.

And that's with very low 3-digit reserves !

I guess they're just pushing their own stuff, not that they would push .TEL anyway, but Sedo is hardly an argument solely against .TEL today.

Outside of your bubble, the real world has databases that allow third party access to the data though API solutions. This data can be plugged into any application on any device connected to the internet.

The funny thing is, Facebook got more traffic yesterday than every .tel domain combined has ever gotten.

And I would be willing to bet that Facebook gets more traffic during its peak hour than every .tel has ever gotten.

Oh, you mean those useless, outdated databases and api's that don't work on 90% of cellphones ?

Big club of romper room folks, that's true.
Maybe they'll mature...

I'm curious, how many times a day do you use .tel when looking for information on the Internet (if .tel can be said to be part of the Internet).

I challenge you to show me one phone - just one - that can access .tel's data but is incapable of displaying data that originated from a traditional web database.

Certainly if 90% of cellphones can't do it you should be able to name just one.

Certainly if 90% of cellphones can't do it you should be able to name just one.

I challenge you to show me one sentence - just one - where that applies.

Surely you can read that the point was running the API's on 90% of cellphones.

Check the context, it was with the API's, the databases were the useless, outdated part.

Another YP will start providing .tel pages to its customers.

The Al Wahda Express Group of companies (AWE) has become the latest yellow pages company to announce that it will be providing .tel domains to its customers in the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

AWE has been a leader in advertising and contact solutions through its flagship products, the Yellow Pages and White Pages directories, in the region since 1986.

While maintaining a leading position in printed directories, the company has rapidly grown into one of the most prolific providers of online advertising and mobile advertising solutions. CEO Wayne Foster says: "In today's competitive environment, maximum exposure means more potential customers for your business. With .tel soon to be a part of our online offering, our customers can be confident that the services that we provide are on the cutting edge of marketing solutions, no matter how their customers choose to find them."
