From the consumer's perspective, the developer's perspective, the domainer's perspective, and most importantly from your wallet's perspective. IMO.
Consumer's are pretty happy buying what they need, don't see any of them complaining.
Ditto for developers, I have a couple of sites on .pro and they earn enough to allow me to keep my investment in the extension renewed to perpetuity.
Domain investors who understand how to invest, come out positive, there are more than a few in this thread.
As for our wallets, why not let us decide?
I think I understand somewhat where you're coming from, but it's not your 'duty' to save everyone's money.
I had a similar attitude earlier, but anyone who's in business understands the risks, or they should before they invest.
How many registrants are really making money ? On .pro specifically ?
In this thread, I'd assume most are, if not via sales then via development. I'm sure a lot of non-members are too, otherwise the registration numbers would be going down, not up.
There isn't much money to be made selling that TLD.
I agree, but then selling domains is actually only a really small part of the entire web business.
And who's to say that someone won't lose money selling .coms, I can point to quite a few incidences where exactly that has happened, I'm sure you're aware of more than a few as well.
Afilias also bought .mobi, I doubt it is going to be a goldmine. So far it's still dead. Perhaps they know something that we don't, or their strategy is to buy extensions to kill them.
Most registries over 100k domains are automatically profit making from what I understand.
Plus there are always economies of sale, the more registries you have, the cheaper it becomes to run each individual one.
And there are 100s more on the way, Afilias is certainly poised to gain revenues from those as well, if not as the Registry on record, maybe as a registry service provider.
BTW I'm not current on the stats, but I think even a lame TLD like .name has got twice as many regs, just to put things in perspective. I don't see life in .pro really. I see spams :red:
You're absolutely entitled to your opinion, as well as investing in whatever you see fit but constantly telling people actively invested in anything that their investments are a waste is somewhat counter productive plus it vitiates the business environment for those of us who are risking it.
You know what's ironic though? Naysaying actually leads to a lot more discussion than otherwise, as well as a lot more interest.
So if your aim is to warn people off, your actions are extremely counter productive to your aims, left on its own, this thread would be a lot less active, at least imho.
