so why doesn't the .pro registry adopt a stronger marketing plan. I would think that with the next initiative after .xxx which is the introduction of 1000's of potential .tld's that now would be the best time to organize one. Has anyone had contact with the registry to see if there have been talks of anything? I know that many companies and big money is organized around the new extension releases.
Keep in mind that the strength of .pro is significant, especially given the fact that its an established brand and been in the market a while now. I was trying to think of potential marketing concepts that .pro could use to really define itself. The best thing I could come up with is comparing it with a franchise. We as domain holders typically rely on the brand to promote the extension while we operate the individual domains. Being promoted as a reliable internet franchise with a defined set of advantages and support structure for its domain owners could help set it apart as well as broadcast publicly the brands reliability and strength.
Yes, the brand is growing at a nice steady clip and maybe they are happy with that., but I personally think the extension has some real key point that could be plugged in a marketing plan that in my oppinion should rely on the stability of the extension. Business people will want to invest in something they can trust will be around a long time. .Pro has been around and presents itself as a very viable alternative for business to plant themselves online. In face of 1000's of potential flash in the pan extensions..a steady line of growth means reliability.
I think the registry should sieze this opportunity to branch out with a marketing plan to further define itself in this sea of confusion of new emerging brands.
I'd like to hear from anyone that has some insite or correspondence with the pro registry about this. Also, maybe there is some opportunity to come together of those of us on this board to make a recommendation to the board. Between all the people who frequent this board the total domains owned could represent 5% of the current market share. (based on 100K registrants 5% is 5,000 domain names of which I could account for between 250-300 with another .pro domainer that I know not on this board.)
