It seems .PRO is slowly coming out of the cage with cheaper reg prices than they were a year ago and major registrars like netsol taking notice of the extension and promoting it.

Here are some that I picked up in last couple of days:

My one and only .pro is Actress.pro. However, I'm definitely looking at investing further here.

I would go with the sale of top soil and compost if you were developing. That seems to be where the weight of searches come from.

One thing that would be good for consumers is a site that sells you a soil test kit, tells you what flowers will grow best in that soil and maybe sells you the bulbs, seeds, or seedlings.

Soil is a niche keyword, if you look of Sedo, there are 3 bids for domains with soil in the keyphrase. On dnsaleprice, there are 5 historical sales, all of them .com, 3 at $100. SoilPro.net and SoilPro.com are developed. You would have little or no chance of selling it to a domainer but it's got decent search volume on Google, it's short, brandable and sounds good with .pro.

If I was direct marketing Soil.pro, I would go with soil testing, excavation, and engineering themes because companies in those fields are more likely to have professionally qualified staff who meet the eligibility requirements.

Thanks akcampbell for the comments and ideas, I am a civil engineer with a bias towards ground engineering, deep foundations etc. hence the registration.

Unfortunately due to my current registrar locking the domain and not allowing unlocking via the panel, I missed the encirca offer. I will wait closer the date for any other offers (Oct 28) but will almost certainly re register this one.

I will probably go for a developed site with a view to getting some hits before marketing it.

In my opinion if we will write many e-mails to Encirca asking to reduce price for .pro domainers - maybe they will change something in pricing.
In my opinion $9.99 will be excellent price for .Pro

Even at $19.99 alot of late 2008 regged .pros will get dropped in the next 4 months. Price parity with other gTLD's would be nice but the biggest obstacles for .pro is restrictions and lack of registrar support.

Is your pro singular or the plural on Sedo?

Total .pros registered rose 3.6% to 38,418 in May 2009. I bought Game.pro for $5,000 last week, you should see it on DNJournal this Wednesday, it went through Sedo.

I guess you could have Gamer.pro, Games.pro, or Gaming.pro. I have to be honest, I didn't consider any of the others. That's not to say they aren't great domains, I just coveted Game.pro. I like how it looks written down and how it sounds. Gamer and Gaming are derivations of Game and are less commonly used in terms of Google uniques, they also have fewer and lower historical sales. Another disadvantage of Gamer is it narrows down possible useage to console, PC, or arcade gaming. Game.pro could be used for other types of games which is useful from a development angle. Games.pro would be better for SEO which is probably why it was registered before Game.pro but I prefer singular .pros, they tend to have more impact. Trademark registries back that up, in general people register marks for Keyword Pro rather than Keywords Pro. If you look at most registrations in .pro, the singular was usually registered before the plural, and that happens alot more than you would find in .com. I think that's because brandability rather than search drives .pro registration choice. The plural interupts the "flow of the pro", it knocks the edge off the wow factor.

I was looking to see if a name I have in another extension was also available in .pro

I then came across "domain IS EXPIRED! "

and an invitation to click on a button to 'encirca' to ask about acquiring this name.

I'm absolutely brand new to .pro so can someone explain the process of purchase and the best route to take to acquire this name.
