It seems .PRO is slowly coming out of the cage with cheaper reg prices than they were a year ago and major registrars like netsol taking notice of the extension and promoting it. B-)

Here are some that I picked up in last couple of days:

Alexandria.pro

Anchorage.pro

Arlington.pro

Belfast.pro

Birmingham.pro

Budapest.pro

Durham.pro

Fairfax.pro

Italian.pro

Lisbon.pro

Fire away with your regs after the relaunch on September 8th, 2008.

Calories.pro won as far as I know, there was an article about it on RegistryPro's site I think, but now it's gone.

I tried transferring two .PRO names from DP to Encirca, but still haven't received the transfer auth email. How long it will take to receive the auth email?

It usually takes a week or so but if you haven't gotten the emails (I didn't from domainpeople nor encirca) you may want to contact support. For some reason emails to approve the domains are not going through... try sending email to Tom?

Thanks for the information.

ICANN Email Archives: [pro-tld-amendment]

Posting this link in case anybody missed ICANN's summing up of the opinions express in response to RegistryPro's proposed fee amendment, I only noticed it tonight. I think it reads well for the in favour argument.

RegistryPro need to do far more than this to make 5 more years of running .pro financially viable. The fee amendment wil save them about $100,000 per year but my guess, and it's only a guess, is that they lose far more than that per year and that's without doing any meaningful .pro marketing.

RegistryPro should highlight the fact that only 10% of registrars by volume will offer .pro because of the current restrictions and demand a level playing field with new gTLD's.

I don't know if anybody has noticed but it looks like SnapNames are winding down their .pro catching service. My guess is it had something to do with Chess.pro. Chess.pro didn't get transferred first time around, maybe because whoever won it didn't meet the registration requirements. Terol snapped it up at the second time of asking.

I'm curious about how much money RegistryPro make and spend running .pro. How can I get a copy of their US filed accounts? In the UK I can buy copies of private company accounts from our Companies House website for £1. I couldn't find an equivalent service in the US when I searched on Google. I'm guess because US corporation registrations are at state level I need to go state websites to get copies? Any help would be much appreciated.

Restriction is a really bad marketing choice, see how .travel are now, just unpopular. I really love dot pro it's almost as good as a .com and for me better than the .biz for businesses and professionals but they didn't put effort on marketing and promotion like .tel did. No conferences, no business trade showup.... They must think different if they want sucess.

Hi, nice job, how did you combine vbulletin forum with your wordpress? do they use a same database?

Thanks.

On Solutions.pro, I have not combined the databases. As I just converted from joomla to wordpress, I am still working on updating the forum theme to match the main site, which shouldn't be too hard.

Wordpress and vbulletin forum can share the databases through a mod for vbulletin. I have tried that on one of my other sites and it works fine. The databases stay saperate but users are added to forum or wp, depending on where they register first. Moreover, vbulletin is used for comments and discussions rather than wp... which is great.

mind sharing the domain name?

B2B,
I also would be interested to hear the name, and who it is parked with if you dont mind.

I would be interested to hear of anyones experiences with whypark etc using .pro names.

While I am hesitant to use these services as they are not usually providing unique content, I'm starting to think it may be better than just leaving my .pro sites at sedo or an alternative. Plus points anyone who arrives is getting some information, rather than the same nondescript junk links.

.pro domains get virtually no traffic parked, that's the same with any alternative extension. If you get traffic it means somebody has tried to develop it and you are getting hits from their backlinks. If you register with Google Analytics you will be able to see where the traffic is coming from for free. On the plus side, when you get parked .pros that get some hits is illustrates what can be achieved with a good SEO'ed minisite. Although, you'd think if the clicks generated covered the reg fee whoever developed it wouldn't have dropped it.

Ah, I was waiting for someone to mention this!
Everytime I reg a domain I do the necessary background checks ie. backlinks, archive.org, etc..
Now that's what I exactly did before registering this domain. In my opinion it's a keyword that makes sense with the extension, which is what we are trying to achieve & show towards the global public.

I even get traffic from IDN .tv's that I hand-registered, who would of thought this right.........
I registered an .im 2 days ago, also getting traffic.... Yes, a flipping .IM !

This just comes to show that "alternative extensions" which is how you mention .PRO like stated above, however to me it's a "gTLD", are getting awareness from the general global public.

And IMO that's promising news!

Motion.Pro stopped providing their service?

I have a challenge for you. If I type in Event Pro in Google, all but one of the results on the first page have Event and Pro in the URL before the extension. You get the same 9 from 10 results with Talent Pro. Can anybody name a .pro where all 10 first page Google results contain the keyword and extension in any order before the extension when you search in the format Keyword Pro? As far as I know, this association feature is unique to .pro. If you try in any other extension you don't get anywhere near 10.

Motion.Pro stopped providing their service?

The site was running on an old version of wordpress that was vulnerable to hackers and had been exploited. It was so old I couldn't upgrade it so I've temporarily forwarded the domain to total.pro. In a few days I should have time to redeploy the site on a newer wordpress instance.
