Hi Guys,

I wanted to share my experience of using Google Analytics one of my parked domains, www.R3M.org. I bought this domain through pool.com some months back and i have been getting around 125 to 150 unique visitor per month consistently. I had parked the name in Sedo where it only gave the traffic nos. but not the source or type of traffic.

The thought of not able to identify the source of this traffic pissed me off very much. Then an Idea struck me. I parked the page in WhyPark.com and added Google Analytics code in the system and let it go. This I did on 1st July 07 and I forgot abt this for a month. I didnt know much about the previous history of the site even after checking them out in archive.org (it was something to do with some games forum). SO I choose the keyword for parking as Xbox and related keywords for articles and content to be generated. I didnt have any articles generated for the set of keywords that i selected.

However, yesterday, when I was logging into my google analytics account, I was shell shocked when I saw the statistics. I had 156 unique visitors (1st jul to 31st jul) for the domain and guess what, around 65% were organic traffic and 20% type-in (direct traffic). The clincher was not this data. The important data for me was the keywords that people used in search engines to cme to my site. it was based on the main root word R3M.

:bingo:

Now I was totally stunned. Why would someone search for a domain name which only 3 chars long. Something was not right. Then as usual I went to the place that knows all.... Google and typed in the characters R3M. The results that came were shocking. IT was the name of a camera model of the brand voigtlander bessa (honestly, I have never heard about them as I am not the photography kind).

At this point of time, I know what those 150 people are looking for my site and then I logged into my whypark account and tweaked the keywords related to cameras and photography. At least people coming in, let them have some meaningful content.

So what do you think guys? Shouldn't parking sites give more data or atleast allow us to ad some tracking code to the parked domain? Lets have some discussion here.

Somebody with fat fingers could type R3M if he's looking for info on the band REM.
