Hey all,

I just got back from my local police station. I wanted to file a police report about my stolen domain names so that I can take it to court.

The police told me, "We are a small department and we don't have the resources to take that type of report".

My town is about 1,000 people in population, but that shouldn't matter.

What am I supposed to do now?

Where can I file the report?

Wow - can you obtain a list of other crimes they don't bother with - and can you recommend a hotel? ;)

Is there a court house where you live?
If so, can't you go in their to file it since the
cops are not able to :-/ Fraud is Fraud,
they should be all over it - shouldn't matter where it happens...

Not sure how it works in the States, but what about a
small claims court to file a judgement? Do you guys have
such a system?

Small claims is my next step but I think I need a police report to file a small claim, or at least I should have one to back up my story.

I can go to the county court house tomorrow and see what they say, I didn't want to make the drive today. I just think my local PD should have been able to take the report.

I agree, they should have at least taken and filed the report,
it's their job! sheeesh
What resources would it take... a pen and paper?
maybe they all have writers cramp :hehe:

Keep us posted, it'll be interesting to see how it plays out "in the system"

Not sure if you have to have a police report for the small claims, as long as you have proof. besides, they won't even take the report :(

They more than likely didn't know how to file a report of that nature. Sounds like they are attempting to pass the buck.
Best of luck.

How many domains are you talking about here?

And bear in mind that they would only view them as face value. So if we are talking about 4 .com domains, then they would see it as about $40. Which means you will need to take it up in small claims court.

PLUS, if you are talking about someone in another state/country that stole your domains, then it is a federal matter and not handled by the locals anyway.

In my country if the cops dont register a complaint then it can be filed in the criminal courts. The court will then direct the police to take up the investigations.

I suggest you talk to a lawyer first.

Only 2, LLLL.coms. But they were stolen from me and I think I should have the right to report them stolen. I was planning on small claims court. Also, I have no clue where the person who stole my names lives, he might be in my state for all I know, that is when GoDaddy would have to release some info, which they won't. I was told to file a small claim against GoDaddy, not the scammer.

I do live in a larger city. But don't know if our police station would take this type of complains.

I have heard we have a cyber crime system here. Please inquire if there is something like that in your jurisdiction.

Thanks.

Why i love NP(ers).

But seriously, there must be a special department in your country / state handling online crime and most of them have an online method to submit complaints.
