The Official .ws thread

.WS can stand for WEBSITE.

It has pros and cons as a domain. This thread is for people who wish to suggest ideas to build up and help promote the .ws domain as well as to give and receive help and advice on .ws domains in general. Some useful info contributed through this thread below. Views and comments anyone...

http://website.ws/faq/index.dhtml

The registry is now allowing .WS domain names to be transferred from registrar to registrar. It seems that most registrars just haven't updated their websites to allow this yet.

This is good news for the .ws market as this was a major factor in holding .ws back. Time for .ws to take off? Can we publicize this to help boost the market?

So why buy .ws?
1. Excellent keywords can still be regged.
2. You can buy premium keywords for $20-$50.
3. Excellent development potential, luckily goog doesn’t really care about which extension the site is on but how much content s there and how often it is updated.
4. Godaddy markets .ws - little but its a big brand
5. The ‘website’ christening seems to have more and more acceptance.
6. Its easy to get traffic and thus revenue for better keywords in .ws than a ‘bad’ keyword in .com

Seems a pretty powerful case for .ws to me. Sounds like a domain with a future.....

Good news! :tu:

WebSite.ws FAQ said:
Can I transfer my domain to another registrar?

Yes, .WS domain transfers may take place in accordance with the "GDI Transfer Policy". Please contact the registrar you would like to transfer to for instructions on how to proceed.
http://website.ws/faq/index.dhtml

The registry is now allowing .WS domain names to be transferred from registrar to registrar. It seems that most registrars just haven't updated their websites to allow this yet.

The transfer bit is actually very good news.

Buy up whatever you can (top keywords only), before this comes into effect at various registrars.

I think this will push prices to a few multiples for sure.

It is good news and people should indeed buy up top .ws keywords as they can as .ws should get a big boost over this

edjackiel, rep on its way ..

Just did a .ws transfer for $9.99 from another Registrar into GoDaddy. So it looks as if things have now started on the ability to transfer to other Registrars and other Registrars should follow suit in due course. Will keep the thread posted when the transfer is concluded...

Given that WS is one of the more famous (if notorious) country-code TLDs, shouldn't the ability to transfer them be BIG news? Or is it understated because the registry lifted the transfer restriction without fanfare?

You're right, Black Diamond, the ability to transfer .ws should be BIG news as it opens the door for .ws domains to be worth a lot more and those owning .ws domains to enjoy a boom in the value of their names. It does appear to be understated because the registry lifted the transfer restriction without fanfare, and it is up to us who own .ws domains to help our cause by publicizing this as best as we can

Any thoughts on publicizing this, anyone?

I'd think we should keep it quiet till we buy a few more

But its upto the registry/registrars to make this known.

TLDs get popular with developed sites basically.

Now that names can be moved between registrars I bet we see a bump in prices.
