The Official .ws thread

.WS can stand for WEBSITE.

It has pros and cons as a domain. This thread is for people who wish to suggest ideas to build up and help promote the .ws domain as well as to give and receive help and advice on .ws domains in general. Some useful info contributed through this thread below. Views and comments anyone...

http://website.ws/faq/index.dhtml

The registry is now allowing .WS domain names to be transferred from registrar to registrar. It seems that most registrars just haven't updated their websites to allow this yet.

This is good news for the .ws market as this was a major factor in holding .ws back. Time for .ws to take off? Can we publicize this to help boost the market?

So why buy .ws?
1. Excellent keywords can still be regged.
2. You can buy premium keywords for $20-$50.
3. Excellent development potential, luckily goog doesn’t really care about which extension the site is on but how much content s there and how often it is updated.
4. Godaddy markets .ws - little but its a big brand
5. The ‘website’ christening seems to have more and more acceptance.
6. Its easy to get traffic and thus revenue for better keywords in .ws than a ‘bad’ keyword in .com

I think you can transfer in now, provided the registrar allows it.

Lot of naysayers jumping in now, which is a good thing.

Thats usually phase two before pricing takes off

3 character .ws - Worth Registering?

Is it worth registering 3 character domains? Does it just depend on how good it is? I realize thru dynadot they are $495/yr but I saw some estibot evaluations to be in the $XX,XXX range and I would agree these would be extremely valuable in the .coms.

I was bidding traffic.ws up to $600 and went out. Would bid for more if my sedo sales were finished :( Great name, and extensions fits it - Web Site Traffic, Traffic for Web Sites, or just traffic.. with some decent dev could worth much more in 1+ years..
I took Front ws just for comfort :( :( :(
Edit: any appraisals for front dot ws? :)

I actually owned about 50-100 LLL.ws at one time.

"What?!!" you may say. Yes, it's very true.

Domainsite actually allowed users to register these LLL .ws legitimately. Unfortunately some guy emailed them asking about it. They saw that their system indeed allowed this to happen and promptly deleted, and refunded them back.

I personally thought that I registered the domains fair and square, and should be allowed to keep the names. A few people do actually own some LLL .ws and are not paying the regular annual renewal rates, but they also got lucky.

Front.ws appraisal $75-$150
Traffic.ws appraisal $500-$850

I used to own that domain. Sold it here a year or so ago for under $100 I think it was. LOL!

I just sold balloons.ws for $1.00 in the auctions here.

Cheers!

I have comfort.ws if that makes you feel any better about bidding on mediocre names at TDNAM

I have a couple of .ws but my favourite of them all is ...

Parking.ws

I had planned to make it a site about domain parking, etc - but have never found time to do so.

S~

I transfered a few .ws domains today, to Godaddy and a WW reseller I own. I had no problems at all, same process as transferring any other domain.

This domain has/will fail. When I think .ws I think websites full of spyware and I should not go onto it.

Thanks for the insight, always nice to hear other opinions.

And I think you meant TLD not domain?

yes I did. I rate .cc better then this, but I own 2 LLL.CC domains so I might be biased. Seriously the main .ws site I think of is serials.ws and thats full of illegal content, pornographic ads and spyware. Meanwhile .CC is becoming famous because of .uni.cc free domains which are getting used a fair bit.
