I feel that domainers investing in the Indian domain space should take a long term position, say another 5 to 8 years at least. And buy only such names that have very good end user potential.

5-8 yrs? lol. well we all hope we can. People often need encouragement(visits/hits/good CTR) to keep trucking, but i agree with you.

I don't have a huge budget, so i'm staying away from buying too many .ins that i can't renew when the time comes.

any ideas what type of .in/.co.in(s) get traffic?

Atleast for the first year!! :) Then, on basis of different revenue streams and their result / output, will keep the good-ones.

T-N .in

I-C .in

R-A-J.in

and some more like that, notice that L-L are taken in most top extensions, like .com .net .org .info .biz, etc? Surprised they are still available to hand reg for .in - there are only 676 possible L-L combinations. Letters like J, H and G seem to be common in India too, probably more premium than elsewhere. Read an article recently about how web use is growing fast in India, so L-L is probably a good bet for the coming years. Good to get some now with this sale on.

I've been working online for the last 10 years almost.

I think the time is RIGHT NOW.

But then I'm not the one selling domains for five/six figures...yet.

-------------

According to those stats, the number of Indian people using internet is greater than the whole population of Canada. And only around 4% penetration of the entire population. So there is a lot of room for growth.

Also read that many Indian tech workers who went abroad are now returning to work in India for multinational branches, or Indian start-ups. Wages are also going up because it's hard to find skilled workers. Best to get in at the ground floor level, whether it takes 2 years, 5 years, or whatever, it's a growth story happening now.

Most of them are reg'd already. But you may want to try Google Trends, type your keyword, select India results and gauge the value of your keyword with the search popularity in India.

Generic names in both extensions get traffic. Use Google Trends to find what keywords are popular in India and then take a shot.

RIGHT NOW the time is to buy good end user potential names, if possible develop them too and mention on the page that it may be for sale. Five/six figures sales are possible even now if your name is very generic, but patience to hold good generics for a long time will get you many five/six figure sales in the future.
