I think I started the first BQB.com auction ever. I'm not sure but it looks like it's up and running.

L-L-L.coms from $19... Wow. :kickass:

I thought I'd try and hop on board while the site's being promoted and have reduced my LLLL.com listings to start as low as $24, L-L-L.com's from $19 and LLLL.info's from 50c. Hopefully with a combo of the advertising and some cheap domains there people will give BQB some attention and join up :)

just seen the improvments on bqb and they rocks. Have fond the time to place just a name for sale, but I will start to add them soon (hopefully) as the site, selling arena, stores, easy of navigation, ease of customisation is all great.

Thanks Marco! :)

Will hopefully have some more improvements put in place before the weekend is over.

I'm trying to do my part to help now too!

7 auctions for triple letter LLLL.coms over the next 7 days, all starting at $0.01 and no reserve :]

$6828 of domains sold on BQB so far this month, averaging about $500/day.

Cheers Reece, I'll be putting in bids for all the great names.

One suggestion is to extend the auction time for say 5 minutes at the last few minutes or so.
In this way you may have auction wars, but the selling price will be much higher for sellers, and buyers will have the chance to put in last minute bids too.

I agree that would help get better results. Also a mobile version of the site in the future would be great since I (and many others) would love to place bids on the go when we're outbid. Anyways keep up the good work Reece and I'll be bidding on your triples :).

Not sure if this is already enabled, but would be quite useful - send a reminder to everyone who placed a bid on the domain just before the auction closes, like 1 hour before or so. Let members change this in preferences also.
I think sedo doesn't do it.

Excellent suggestion Michael :)

Definitely a great idea and something to look into implementing soon.

Thanks mate :)

A mobile site is an excellent suggestion and something I'm really interested in looking into.

Excellent suggestion. A 5 minute anti-snipe is now in place.

eg. End Time: 1:00
Bid Time: 0:56
New End Time 1:01

second example:

End Time: 1:00
Bid Time: 0:59
New End Time: 1:04

This will hopefully be the best of both worlds for buyers and sellers, allowing more strategy to when it's best to place a final bid and at the same time ensuring that any significantly interested bidder doesn't lose out because of a last minute snipe. Should allow for both some good deals and better selling prices :)

Yeah, everyone usually waits till the last minutes to bid and then many forget about it lol
I know it happened to me a lot, if sedo did this they could easily increase their revenue by some % :lala:

Yeah, Snapnames currently employs this feature, which I think actually increases the ending prices since each time a bid is made in the last minute, an extra 5 minutes is tacked on.

I'll have to look into making it "opt in" -- I don't want anyone feeling like I'm mass spamming them (on that note, would anyone like me to get rid of all those emails every time you list a domain for sale?) :)

It's a great idea and I for one can say that I have forgotten about auctions before, so I definitely see the usefulness of this.

whats the verified member thing??
i saw it below many members name..
is it neccessary to do that for placing bid

Hi Anuj,

It's 100% unnecessary at present for placing bids, however I am looking into the option of allowing members to restrict bidding to "Verified Members Only". Verification is free for all Namepros members -- just sent a small Paypal or Moneybookers deposit from a Verified Paypal or Verified Moneybookers account to reece(at)bqb.com. Follow that up from an email from the exact email indicated to have sent the money indicating that you've sent me a small deposit and that you're a NPer. Your small deposit will be refunded in full within 2-3 days after verification is complete.

This verifies 2 things:

1 - You are the owner of a Verified Paypal or Verified Moneybookers account.
2 - You are the owner of the email on file associated with the Verified Paypal or Verified Moneybookers account.

Nothing is scammer/hacker proof in this world unfortunately, but it's an additional security measure to better ensure you're dealing with who you think you're dealing with. I'll be adding a safe "escrow" service within a couple months which will be at a lower cost than Escrow.com for smaller transactions which will also help with ensuring successful transactions. Only 1/220 sales has so far been problematic -- not sure if we'll be able to keep that up as BQB grows, but hopefully we can have options available for low costs which enable each buyer/seller to choose the degree of risk they're willing to accept.

The developers have worked very hard over the last few days and here's what's been fixed so far:

  • Complete Safari / OS X support
  • Addition of a "Verified" Image to auctions which makes verified members stand out more
  • Current prices + end dates shown on featured items
  • Outbid email/watched item error fixed
  • New relisting mod which resets auctions rather than creating new ones (better for SEO)
  • Messages Sent / Received now shows the amount in the mailbox
  • Auction categories sections cleaned up and increased to 100 domains per page

With a second developer onboard, here's the ambitious list of implementations I hope to have made over the next couple months:

1 - Resolving auctions being removed from being "Watched" when outbid.
2 - Resolving Safari / OS X related issues.
3 - Resolving problems with emails sometimes not going through or ending up in junk folders.
4 - More Store Templates
5 - Make Messages Received show the number of unread messages
6 - Addition of a "Verified" image to auctions of all verified members (similar to ebay with SquareTrade)
7 - Bulk Listing capabilities
8 - Show current prices and end dates on featured items
9 - Option to allow only verified members to place bids on your auctions
10 - Implementation of "BQB Escrow".
11 - Implementation of Unique Reputation for feedback scores
12 - Integration of Google Checkout as a Direct Payment method and ePassporte as an Offline Payment method. Addition of "Paypal Masspay Only" as a payment method.
13 - Displaying 100 domains per page instead of the current 20. Widening the "Item Title" section, getting rid of the compared feature, changing "Max Bid" to "Current Bid", making stores without items not appear on the stores page, perfecting the RSS feeds, fixing the occasional error involving outbid notices not being sent, implementing a new relisting method, adding a subtitle line (for short descriptions).
14 - being able to stay logged a little longer
15 - have an automatic email sent when watched items are about to finish
16 - Customer Support forum (for troubleshooting, auction help, and suggestions)

If anyone has additional changes or implementations they'd like to see, please let me know! :)

Great Progress!

Looks like you have started a new trend Reece, sites like http://midsale.com are trying to follow in your footsteps. :)

I wouldn't mind seeing longer auctions than 90 days. I like the default 10 day auctions and I think that longer periods utilise better. I think 180, 270, 360 or 365 day auctions could be considered but not all.

For me personally, I actually like the 270 day period. This allows me to put a domain on auction immediately after regging it and review the domain in the last 3 months of before renewal date and decide whether to quickly liquidate it or renew and list at a higher price.

Just posted my first auction on BQB, I've seen it from day 1, but it took me a while to get started heh.

I'm planning to sell/auction many more LLLL.com's once I'm back from vacation, next week :)

btw, what do green, yellow and red starts near usernames mean? I think I don't have any yet.

Hi Michael,

The stars are based on attaining certain feedback levels, similar to eBay.

The one thing I worry about Phil is people listing domains and forgetting about them -- or worse, selling them at other venues and forgetting to delete these listings, leading to far more incomplete sales.

Gotta love copycats :)

I've had several people ask me about why I'm selling such a large portion of my LLLL.com collection at the moment.. This is one of the major reasons -- I need to get awareness of BQB to the point where someone looking for a no commission marketplace wouldn't consider using an alternative.

The hardest part of any marketplace imho is finding buyers. Sellers are generally more than willing to sign up provided it costs them nothing to do so but they won't stick around long if they can't get any buyers.
