I dont know. Can you, for a fact? I’m assuming it’s something procedural. Or maybe they were hoping to avoid putting a private citizen through the whole ordeal...
There was NOTHING about Dr. Fords demeanor or behavior during questioning to suggest that she was being anything but cooperative. Nervous and overwhelmed, as to be expected, but polite and extremely cooperative. She started to answer every question, even though her lawyer stopped her on a few which were out of line.
Kavanaugh otoh was combative, evaded or flat out refused to answer questions, even responded very inappropriately at times. He would have kicked someone out of his own courtroom for talking back to Klobuchar like he did. (He apologized later, but nevertheless is that short fuse and lack of self control appropriate in a SCOTUS judge?)
Which one was acting like they had something to hide?
In any case, investigating is the right thing. We shouldn’t appoint someone to that important a position if there’s any doubt as to their character. In order to maintain national trust in our justice system, the person who fills that seat needs to be above reproach.
