The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
of course not :) but we have no reason to assume that % of sales reported in RFID/NFC/Ajax/etc domains should be seriously different from that of Cloud names for example, right?.. so we have some trend to figure where it is going - if only 50% reported the numbers are still..well..weak. or those are secret government technologies so that only small amount of off-shore sales can reach public? :)

I get what you are saying and I agree you can't just go out and register any type of domain with NFC, Wallet, or Tap in it and expect to sell it for anything other than reg fee (if you are lucky) in 12 months. However, if you are very picky then you might score big time. It's a lottery really but if you don't play you can't win . Same thing with "Cloud", "roulette", or other new technology craze.

It's not a lottery if you research and buy 1 great domain. It only becomes a lottery when you mindlessly register tons of domains based on a technology trend or keyword :imho:

Well said.
I have owned hundreds of domains iover the past 13 years and I have let some expire, kept a lot of them and sold a few of them and those few I have sold has kept me well in the black so far.
And on top of that its just good fun :)

Have you tried to buy -

SpeechCoders.com
Decoders.com
Transistors.com
WakieTalkies.com

issue with the money?

money is always an issue i believe :)

..on the names you listed - if you had registered NFC.com/NearFieldCommunication.com no one here wouldve ever said anything about "worthless" or "regfee" (same issue with money probably)... we are talking of random (no offense please) word(s) + NFC domains... pretty strange but Transistor(s)/Decoder(s)/WakieTalkie(s) + Focus.com are free..

..wait.. BluetoothFocus.com taken and parked.. probably big money began to silently pour into hot technology :)

P.S. so if you dont own - cloud.com , 3d.com, forum.com or the exact word then dont reg a name? Top advice.

Close but not quite.

If I want a cloud domain and don't own cloud.com, the last thing to do is register 20 "cloud" domains. Instead, I search the aftermarket and buy the best domain my budget will allow!

It's pointless to register domains like many folks are doing in this thread. Time will prove to them that what I'm saying is correct.

Buying existing domains is great but it too can be a gamble, just at a much higher price.
Always remember that all domains had to be originally registered at one time.

I have sold plenty of domains that I have created for $7.
I dont know why you worry so much about what others are spending, it's really not any of your business rather they announce publicly or not.
You are starting to sound more like chicken little then a senior member and I dont think anyone cares.

I don't worry but I care when I see people in the community wasting their hard earned money. I post in threads like this one in hopes of saving the inexperienced a few bucks. Your registrations show your level of experience. It's obvious that you would benefit from keeping an open mind and taking to heart what others have to say :)

P.S. just because you can only find a couple of sales, it does not mean that offers are not being made on nfc names. I know for a fact and speaking to the owners that a substantial about of money is being thrown at these names.

Always lots of offers.. never lots of sales....

Always lots of non-disclosure ... that wink-wink, some of us know about.

There's lots of money being thrown about for sure - and Mr Parsons is going to make it rain for his girls tonight.

Keith has a point, we are now getting to what I would call a domainer feeding frenzy where newbs get stuffed.

I agree with Keith's reasoning, but when I woke up today I found my mouse had donated to pingcasin0.com.

I wrote a longer post but somehow could not post it - is there a length limit, or a cynicism filter?

Guys, just ignore these sales, these are nothing to do with NFC, mobile payments, mobile wallets....

Have a look at them, none are related

Ping.net for example is a golf company

lets focus on sales that are related to this technology

Thanks to the senior members/veterans here for their invaluable advice. I'm a domain newbie and recently decided to stop reg'ing in this category unless something seriously jumps out (even then I would do extensive research before $). I'm sure others will agree the search is quite addictive and exciting, though I have woken up regretting a few hasty decisions. Many of the names listed here are probably near worthless, including mine, though there surely will be some winners. Probably wise to treat articles similar to Barclays lightly. I guess some of us will learn the hard way!

I agree that most of the best reg's have gone, so personally I'm going to monitor the trend, watch the aftermarket and look into developing/monetizing some of my domains for now.

For info, here are the nfc and tap domains that were newly listed on Sedo last week. I've eliminated some tap* ones that were clearly not tap-related, such as tape-deck. Interestingly, tapdates.com was added last week but registered nearly two years ago. Some of these I think are actually interesting ideas, such as voting or vouchers (not mine).

Sorry if I misled anyone but I was referring to Carob's article
http://www.newsroom.barclays.com/Pr...-is-developing-amongst-Twitter-users-74c.aspx

Where Ping is also now being used as a Transfer/Pay term

Those where just the sales I found with that term.
Some are in fact marketing Apps, its good to have a word with many meanings.
PingWizard is owned by PingMobile.

Wise decision making on your part! You'll save money by taking a step back to analyze the situation beyond the hype :imho:

"LG's 5-inch Optimus LTE to come with NFC tags" - posted 02/20/2012

http://www.tgdaily.com/mobility-brief/61562-lgs-5-inch-optimus-lte-to-come-with-nfc-tags

The phone will have Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, but LG is pioneering the idea of customizable tags or stickers. Users can stick the tags anywhere, like on a computer desk or vehicle dashboard.
Those tags act as macros for the phone - in other words, swiping your phone over the tag in your car could automatically enable GPS and Bluetooth connectivity, or swiping it over the tag near your computer could open the file-sharing app.

Sony Ericsson doing something similar... Google 'xperia smart tags'

Smart stickers and smart posters (using NFC tags) should also gain momentum as more NFC phones hit the market. Similar to how we're seeing QR codes appearing more and more. IMO, although QR codes are the cheaper alternative for now, as NFC tags reduce in price they will become increasingly more popular due to their convenience and extra data capacity.

You guys probably already know about this, but l just found this out last night on TV when I seen a new commercial for Citibank using a program called Popmoney and I just found this video on youtube explaining it.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXSZ_NqhtI4"]POPMoney[/ame]

PopNPay.com
PopandPay.com
PopPayday.com

To put this into proper perspective.

The COMPANY developing this Cash Edge. This is a good brandable name based on the concept that many of you are trying to capture "Cash".

The Product is PopMoney and they have rightfully trademarked it.

Not saying that Pop isn't usable verb. Not commenting on your names; however, this doesn't "create" a market for pop names and does as much to contract it as expand it.

I think PopNSons is the best Pop name :)

I do think pop.tap variants are generally better sounding than NFC...

I see a lot of money being thrown away in this thread.

If any of the guys reging these names think they discovered something new and lucrative... I am sorry to burst that bubble, but you did not!

Have a look at "Tap" domain names which are expiring, regd in 2010... No one is taking them, yet some of them are of better quality than the ones posted here... and still I am not tempted to buy any of these.

I saw a $xxx sale reported in this thread, but spending $xxx/$xxxx on names hoping most will sell so that you will be in profit is ridiculous. Who are the end-users? Are there that many for each domain you have?

One or two is cool, tens and hundreds... not good.

Just saying so that new members don't rush after fools gold.

Buy with caution.

Popmoney.com is registered to Markmonitor. I guess they hold the name for Citibank?

It seems the candidates are now pop, ping, tap, touch, nfc (not a verb, yet) and maybe wave or swipe (but that could mean steal). Pop, ping and tap were already good words and a lot of those were taken long ago.

Is the word dosh used in the USA?

Widely used in the UK as slang, but the whole thing I got from the Barclays article is banks adopting slangish terms to respond to how mobile customers really use language. What next?

Check out the terms for money - there are tons -

[ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slang_terms_for_money"]Slang terms for money - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]

So if banks don't need these names who does? App developers? Maybe, but they distribute through app stores. Retailers? Tech services? Gambling? Escorts? Gaming? Social?

One way to look at it is afaik names with terms for cash or money in them are attractive to someone, so that might happen with names for virtual cash. Or not.
