ahh ... we're still on our way up the first loop of the roller-coaster for LLLL and L-L-L dot coms (ie, don't be surprised to find things going upside down at some point in the ride). Just have to get that caveat out there - would agree that LLLL and L-L-L are a good bet, not yet a proven model to follow until we see how they actually play out over the next few years. :imho:

Maybe better to look for guidance from the more proven LLL.com, NNN.com, CCC.com - and for comparison, also take a look at what's been going on with LLL.us ...

1) short, scarce, easy to remember, easy to map to end users = $xxxx+
2) NNN was a surprise to many but very strong in the "short, scarce, easy to remember" department - and easily found end users in China.
3) CCC was maybe an even bigger surprise ... Firing on just 2 of the 4 cylinders (that is, short and scarce, but not so easy to remember or map to most end users) ... still now consistently strong $xxx trading range for resellers. Pretty good for a reg-fee or $xx pickup a few years ago.
4) LLL.us was also a surprise to many I think, but not (yet) the way speculators hoped. Bouncing around in the low $xxx range, it hasn't taken off (yet) - and so has been susceptable to "corrections" in price of around 20% or more as holders lose patience and sell at a loss to move on to hotter areas.

(This is all just off the top of my head, I haven't actually been trading the LLL/NNN/CCC/.us markets so would look for more accurate data and insights from those who have actual experience in these areas over the last few years ...)

Anyway ... lessons to be learned? Scarcity is key, .com outperforms ... From LLL.us we see that it's easy to overpay on the way up and then get stuck waiting for the next leg of the journey. (Remember this if inclined to speculate overmuch on random CVCV.com high-flyers etc.)

Rule of thumb for me is not to pay too much for anything I wouldn't be happy with as an end user, no matter what other resellers are doing. So if I were in the markets a while ago following this guideline, I would have missed out on the bulk of the CCC.com though might pick up a few that actually made sense to me (see items 3 and 4 - easy to remember and map to end users).

And, while some resellers may be getting impatient with LLL.us, I might pick up a few at this point, just because I like them (short and memorable) and the price is reasonable now. For those based in other country codes such as .de / .in / .cn / .ru / etc etc etc, also seems like the respective LLL and NNN and even (maybe) CCC might be worth another look for the long term.

Haven't really yet thought about this carefully enough to put any of my own money into anything beyond a few reg-fee CCC.us pickups for my own use though!

Probably plenty more opinions and advice from others on this board, hopefully you'll hear more from folks who actually know what they're talking about ...!

Good luck, be careful, have fun ... (not necessarily in that order).

I dont think LLLL.com is going far big hype but eventually it will die down and they will be worth next to nothing. Id say the best thing to do is find generic domains and find end users and wholesalers.

The next plan for great investing will be LLLL dot com that you still can find on a reasonable price on expiring auction.According to the vast majority of members (all apart one)their value would never drop and possibly will appreciate at a fast rate in a couple of years.
I think .in has a potential as i see recently a few buys for good one word keywords. This might pull along interest for LLL.in (still one third available if I am not wrong) , but this is just speculation...

For the next trend . . . going to have to go with e-LLLL names, like ecars.com evans, epoop.com and then generally cover the range of the eLLLL.com names and eL-L-L.com names, of course taking into account the C / V debate.

Kidding kidding . . .

I think people should focus on trading their LLLL's and whatever back and forth, thats the only way they will increase in artificial value.

:)

Maybe now it's a good idea to start investing in domains like that one in your sig "xn--mgbajs8hhhot.com"

What the hell were you drinking?

I hope you realise that the domain in the signature is actually an IDN !!!

If so, why doesn't the URL show up in Arabic in my browser. My browser and OS support Arabic.

That is clearly an IDN. What IE version do you have?

I have IE6 (Arabic supported).
I can see the link anchor text in Arabic but not the URL.

I've moved on to LLLLL.com and they are getting impressive clicks.

So Far this month @ parked.com:

147 LLLLL.com: 7,567 visitors 437 clicks
123 LLLL.com : 2,227 visitors 6 clicks

I have one LLLLL.com that has 4,695 visitors and 0 clicks. Take that domain out and the click thru rate of my LLLLL.com is over 10%.

No one clicks LLLL.com. (But that's not really why I bought them)

Exactly everyone is visiting the site to see if they are developed or parked but they are worth nothing outside the realm of domainers.

What's after LLLL.com?

- LLLL.com. I'm still looking for decently priced LLLL.com and have bought a few this week. LLLL.com have all been registered for reason - they sell. Personally I've sold more LLLL.com than anything else.
- pronouncable LLLLL.com. I'll buy a nice pronouncable CVCVC.com long before I buy one of the LLLL.com's domains registered on the last day.
- .in domains. By 2020 or something India is expected to have the largest population of any country on the planet. Income and high tech are growing as are internet usage. How could .in not do well?

Maybe selling options on domains may become popular. I've found this concept interesting in the past.
