    Dot Radio domain names

    Tuesday 21 March, 2017

How much? How to get it?

The recent launch of the .radio domain name is an important innovation for the world radio industry.

The domain will be controlled by the European Broadcasting Union, which had an information booth at this year's RadioDays Europe.

    Some key points:
You can get the domain name direct from the EBU, or from your domain registry.

It will be cheaper if you get it straight from the EBU, €22 for a private website and about €200 for a professional broadcast company.

There will be an approval process to control the registrations and ensure that those using it are legitimate stations or streaming services.

I think that they consider internet streaming services radio. Also, Iheartradio streams regular radio stations from across the country. Podcasting is also huge. I think that all of these options are considered channels. Broadcast is probably a better descriptor, but radio has a kind of cool/rebel/retro sound to it now.

If they actually make an audio stream a requirement, I think that it could end up being a pretty nice clearing house of all audio broadcasts out there.

I will not touch .radio because if it is linked to an european institution it will be a fiasco.
There are way better opportunities if you search th enew gTLDs.

In the movie "Radio Days" there's an amusing scene of an old guy running through the streets of NYC maniacally waving a meat cleaver.

I can envision the same eventual scenario for folks investing big in such a nostalgic TLD.
