How much will flowers.mobi be sold for?
The winner of the game is the one who
guesses the closest price.
:bingo:

My guess is:

$ 63.000

Hi thanks for the info. Seems that was the second highest mobi sale ever, and it was direct from the registry, not aftermarket.

Found more info here
http://www.thedomains.com/2009/09/08/casino-mobi-sells-for-135k/

Quoting a reply to the article:

Just to correct your article where you say its the second highest .mobi sale. It’s not.
These two sold in 2007:
Poker.mobi $150,000

Ringtones.mobi $145,000

also dont forget games.mobi sold for over 400k at auction and music.mobi sold for $616,000 i believe. Sedos servers got took down and there were squabbles. Remember? The sale of music.mobi took place in private with lawyers, mtld etc and fair to assume price must have been low – mid xxx,xxx but couldnt be revealed.

But i make this 4th largest sale, possibly lower, i have to check some other stats, but poker and ringtones are recorded sales

Reserve for Flowers.mobi is already met,

current high bid is $750, it's the domain with the most bids so far lol..

I submitted Air.mobi and Dvr.mobi as well to the Miami auction (At No Reserve!! I am ready to take a loss, if ever, those are my 2 only .mobi investments anyhow)

I was too late for the live auction so they will only show them in the extended Miami auction, not exactly sure when it will start...

I think those 2 .mobi domains will reflect the current value of .mobi a lot better then Rick's Domain, what you think DVR.mobi and AIR.mobi will sell for?

Don't feel yourself BS, people very rarely get rich from luck. He's made more money than anyone on this forum and knows more about domains than most on the game. If you think it is luck head down to the nearest blue collar bar and you'll find plenty who agree. Many poor people think rich people made money via luck, that is a major reason why they are poor, they don't understand how people make money.

It might not all be luck. But some of it certainly is. If you read some of his recent blog posts describing his sales method. Well then you just have to scratch your head and think. Man that guy must be lucky.

He pretty much says he opens up a negotiation by insulting his potential buyer. This way he does not have to deal with people that can not look past insults to get his name. This way he does not waste his valuable time. That is borderline stupid. Now he might be a good trader, but he would never cut it in a professional sales outfit. There you have the time to actually go after each sales enquiry without calling your prospect an ass.

So he is lucky. Lucky that he got in the game early enough to secure such names that he could insult his buyers and still make sales. If RS did not have those names he would not make any sales. Today its a mute point since he is the "domain king" and his reputation will open any door for him.

So I see him as a sort of curiosity. He definitely has some sales skills (although I have no idea what they are), but he is no people person. And as such I will subscribe to the notion that he is lucky like hell..

Flowers are a terrible product to sell from an alternative extension. They are not a generic product where the quality can be guaranteed and the customer will need alot of reassurance on quality before ordering because it's important to a particular relationship they have. They will only get that reassurance online by buying from a bricks and mortar website or an established online flower retailer which is bound to have .com domain.

Buying flowers on a mobile phone doesn't make any sense, I have an HTC Desire handset, I carry it with me round the clock but I would never buy anything on it because I want to see big photos of what I'm buying, do some price comparison, maybe look at some reviews of the store, and I don't want the hassle of cranking through a long check out process with the delivery details and message as minimum and possibly my details and card details on top if its my first time using the site.

When I buy flowers when I am not at home or work, I go to Google.co.uk on my phone, I get the shop details up for the store I use near where a particular person lives, all I have to do is touch the phone number on the screen and the phone dials, I ask the shop what they have fresh in, maybe agree some colours and the price, read out my card details, recipient details, and message, and I am done. I have used the local flower shop before, I know I can rely on the quality and they are cheaper and better than networks like Inter Flora or big UK stores selling flowers as a sideline like Tesco or M&S.

The only .mobi site I use on my phone is a TV streaming site, I don't pay any subscription or give them my card details. That's the sort of site that is ideal for a .mobi. Other products that work are stock prices, maps, directories, price comparison sites, phone apps, mobile games, what's on guides, restaurant review sites, car park finders, anything where you can bring a page up instantly and it doesn't involve typing in personal details or handing over your credit card details.

With no back story, Flowers.mobi would sell for less than $5,000. With a $200,000 "miracle" sale in 2008, there is bound be some kind of rub with the auction so it wouldn't surprise me if it sold for a very big multiple of what it is actually worth.

12k

I disagree with akcampbell. New phones such as iphone4 and droid offer big screens with crystal clear display. Buying flowers or anything via mobile is not an issue and will become normal practice as we move forward!

My uneducated guess: 16K

My totally off the cuff guess is that it sells around 200k, though the extension might actually vary that by a factor of 10.

Flowers is a huge cpc keyword and deserves some respect, even in .mobi

:)

I say $200,001

:D And here is my rather serious guess: $2k

Flowers is a monster keyword, even in a bad extension. With the story behind it I think it will sell for around $20K. I will put an official guess at $18,500.

I think without the history it would sell for Mid $X,XXX - Low $XX,XXX.

What does it mean for dotmobi if this domain is sold for a high or low price, from a domainer's perspective?

$15K

Enough to make it not look like Pigeon Crap.. but enough to make RS look like he stepped in it.

My guess is that the auction will be rigged and that it will sell for over $200k to an anonymous buyer. Just my personal guess and I have no intimate knowledge that this is fact.

Rick gets a lot of heat for this domain and I can't imagine why he's selling it knowing full well he'll likely get considerably less than what he paid. Anyone have a clue why he would sell this in the open market for what's sure to be a loss?

In case the auction is legit then I'd say $12,700.

I am a very patient person and with 1000 other new extensions coming to market, you could see a revival.

So not sure how a year later he's lost his patience.

Q: What methods, and metrics do you use when buying domains? At this point is it mostly based on your “gut” instinct and awareness of potential end-users?

A: No metrics. Few give accurate stats even tho they have them so you MUST know so the ONLY tool I use is my gut.

That sums up his abilities. He goes with his "gut". In gambling we call that "luck".

There was some speculation during the original flowers.mobi sale which also was sold at TRAFFIC in 2006. Why a guy who runs the auction has a chance to bid is beyond me? At the time there was rumors it was bid up by Flowers.com. Schwartz had ties to the mobi people as they paid him commission to sell premium mobi's at his TRAFFIC.

http://mtld.mobi/node/1135

mTLD used I believe 3 TRAFFIC's to auction "premium" mobi domains. The biggest seller was in fact the biggest buyer. And that's not suspicious?

Me personally..I think it stinks of corruption, upselling, and market manipulation.

Schwartz helped doom mobi by creating a boom so high that it was sure to bust. Flowers.mobi should have gone to flowers.com for proper usage and development. Now it's too late.

But because of this history I really believe there is a chance this domain will go for more than $200k as an attempt by some to raise mobi values or at the very least for Schwartz to save face. If this domains sells for less than $50k then everyone will be able to point forever to Flowers.mobi as the worst domain failure by our legendary "domain king". Ironic that Don King is going to be there.

A sale of less than even $100k will be contrary to many statements the Domain King has made about holding domains and their value being exponential. He's one of those strident domain holders that rarely sells and in the cases he has sold it's domains for high $xxx, xxx or in the millions.

So what is he up to?

You konw, he owns a lot of mediocre names too. So flowers.mobi was not his first bad domain. Also, the name was on Fusu back then, not sure if it still is. But he doesn't seem to believe in that name anymore.

simple question - what are the highest mobi sales in the last year? Is any above $5k ? Maybe this is flowers for a funeral.
