Do you know what the buyer intended to do with the domain? I'm only asking because it seems to be offline atm and there is nothing showing up on the archive since January.
I dont know.

How 2017 performs for you in terms of inquiries and sales regarding .me?
The weakest year per my experience...
Yes 2017 has been tough no doubt but not only in domains but over all business people have cashed money to put it to Crypto everyone wants quick returns but it is going on 2 ways either you leave it or you keep it if you have the strength because domains are a random sale.
these days selling domains is an art it is very easy to buy and stock up on them but very hard to make a sale and get money i have sold some on higher prices in past but now things have slowed down.

If American buyer doesn't want to pay even $699 for Gonzo - this is diagnosis definitely.
Hot and cool...
I've always liked .ME, and one of my first memorable flips was "dazzle" (found on GD Auctions at 1am back in 2011, sold to a Canadian business guy 3 months later. Those were the days. You don't see verbs like that sitting around anymore).
I still have several, but they haven't seen a lot of action. Jamaica + Lifecoach are the only ones I'm really partial to. Those were good buys. Jamaica in particular was not cheap.
