I know this is a painful topic for many of us, but what would you say was the closest you've gotten to making a nice sale only to have the deal fall through? What happened?

some short pharmaeuctical site argg. it was selling $6+ till it shot up to $100,

but then it was already out of my budget :S

It was good the deal did not go through because I think he wanted to scam me by offering high value. When I demanded meeting him face to face, he never responded again.

How often do you ask to meet your buyers face to face? How big an offer would it have to be to take that precaution?

I was talking to a guy to sell him mlbzone.com and mlbzone.net for $6,000 dollars. I don't know why he was interested. Maybe only because he worked with the MLB as an Internet Affiliation or something close to that. I had some nice stats maybe to sell for like $100-$300 ... Then the site got hacked about 1 month later and it went down the drain. The deal fell through before I was hacked though. Those domains are long gone. This was a few years ago.

I thought I had reg'd Golf.am but Godaddy screwed up. Of course it was already taken but I did not find out til the next a.m. (pun intended) I thought I was rich, at least for a night!

same here I was offered a $1,000 for SoccerFriend.com and I asked 3,000..
I have not heard anything from that guy anymore

While not really a fish that got away...

About 13 or 14 years ago, I thought: "you know, I really should register cocacola.com, safeway.com, bank.com, money.com, pepsi.com, etc..." But, back then, registrations were many, many times more expensive than they are now - and I didn't want to waste a couple thousand dollars on stupid domain names that would never be worth anything...
