I'll start off:

NY girl falls 14 stories, saved by sooty landing

NEW YORK (AP) - A 12-year-old girl fell into a chimney on the roof of her apartment building, plummeted 14 stories down the flue and landed almost unscathed in a pile of furnace soot.

Grace Bergere, a young rock drummer, remained hospitalized Saturday for treatment of an injured hip.

The 2-foot-deep pile of ash and dust may have saved her life, cushioning her fall when she crashed into a basement furnace, fire officials said.

Authorities said Grace was showing a cousin, visiting from California, the spectacular view of the city from the top of her family's West Village apartment building, which has a rooftop deck overlooking the Hudson River.

To get to the highest point Thursday night, she climbed up a 25-foot ladder alongside the big brick chimney. When she reached the top, she fell into the gaping mouth of the chimney and plunged down the narrow flue to the basement.

"I think she probably went down head first and landed on her back," fire Lt. Simon Ressner said.

People magazine gets Pitt-Jolie baby pictures

NEW YORK (AP) -- A person involved in the negotiations for pictures of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's newborn twins says the rights have fetched $14 million.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/Movies/08/01/brangelina.photos.ap/index.html

So.. why is this good news, inspirational, or motivating?

Because the entire $14 million will be donated to charities through the Jolie-Pitt Foundation. Kudos to Brad and Angelina for giving a damn..

... Jolie, 33, and Pitt, 44, established their foundation in 2006, often making children the focus of their giving. They donated $1 million in June to The Education Partnership for Children of Conflict to help children affected by the war in Iraq. Last year, the Jolie-Pitt Foundation gave more than $300,000 to support the International Rescue Committee's relief program for Darfur refugees.

It's easy to poke fun at the "beautiful people" but some of them are making an honest effort at putting money where their mouths are. Likewise for the Gates Foundation. I can't help myself, I admire Mr. Bill.

As do I..

I think it's great when the rich and famous give back a bit (or a lot) to those who really need it.

Here are some more examples:

The EL Foundation was established by NFL star Antwaan Randle El and his brother to provide life-changing opportunities for underserved children and their families across the country.

The AWard Foundation was established by New York Knicks Point Guard Charlie Ward and wife Tonja Ward. The Foundation's mission is to improve the lives of young people through mentoring and educational programs, as well as sports and Gospel music programs.

The Battier Family Foundation was established by Houston Rockets' star Shane Battier and his wife Heidi Battier to provide college scholarships to Detroit students and improve the quality of life for children in Detroit, Michigan and Houston, Texas.

Yeah, I do believe it.. great story but I'm thinking next time they may not be so lucky.. "Hey, these guys left me here to fend for myself TWICE?! WTF!"..

He may have been thinking "Thank God! They're here to pick me up and take me home!"

BTW- typing "Good News" into Google and going to the first link gives me a malware alert from Avast! Figures!

Don't know if this has been on NamePros yet.

Not sure whether I buy into the legitimacy of it or not...I was believing it up until the lion's mate joined in. Oh well, meets the criteria of your thread topic, I guess.

BISMARCK, N.D. โ€” Golfing for just the third time, 11-year-old Allan Saylor was whacking the ball around with a friend, not even keeping score. A hole-in-one? No big deal. The sixth-grader fired the ace Wednesday on the 150-yard, par-3 sixth hole at the neighboring Mandan Municipal Golf Course, using a driver borrowed from his buddy.

I guess a hole in one qualifies for good news to some people, lol!

Guess it really pays to vote:

SNEEDVILLE, Tenn. โ€” Angela Tuttle has won an election, but she wonโ€™t have to spend a lot of time thanking the people who voted for her.

Tuttle was running for constable of Hancock County, Tennessee, as a write-in candidate. Nobody else was vying for the position and Tuttle says her father encouraged her to give it a go.

County election officials says only 131 people voted in Thursdayโ€™s district elections and there was only one vote in Tuttleโ€™s constable race. It was her vote and, yes, she voted for herself.
