Ok, so it is very clear that Estibot in terms of appraisals is not very respected. I fully agree with this. I have however, used this site and paid for a monthly membership (19.95) so I could evaluate the stats for keywords I was researching. I recently ended the membership but find myself needing tools to substitute for Estibot in terms of stats. So for you experienced Domainers here what tools are you using to lookup CPC, Exact Phrase Monthly Searches, SERP and those types of evaluation stats? Before I get blasted..I also understand there is more to a domain name other than stats...

Is it common for members here to have an Estibot membership but not admit to it?

Thank you for your feedback.

For general stats we love google keywords tool. It provides a great deal of valid information needed to help you in your search for stats. Traffic, CPC, Advertising rank, Phrase, Bulk, Exact Searches and more. It will also provide you with suggestions and is an exceptional way to find available names to register. We have been using this for years and the info it provides far outweighs any appraisal sites, especially esti.

We used esti from early 2008 till just recently. As former esti users we offer this: Always use a bit of general caution when dealing with appraisal sites such as esti and others like them. Try not to become too dependent upon their appraisal amounts and never use them as a basis for which to register or not register names. In the end, they just want your $xx every month. Prior to the more recent esti beta version, their appraisal amounts were nothing short of a joke. They would have business listed at around $320 and some crackpot five word name listed for $120,000. Simply ridiculous. However, with their upgrade to the beta version they have gotten a bit better and bit more realistic. Nonetheless, as with all stats driven sites, they should only be used as a basic tool or guide.

Remember, the true value of any name [regardless of who appraises it] is ultimately the decision of it's buyer.

I think Estibot is a useful tool, but you have to take it for what it is: a tool.

There are many tools out there you can use that estibot provides free of charge. Here are a few places you may want to check out:

Google Keyword tool is pretty legit.

I'm a big fan of valuate (partnered with Estibot I believe).

Namebio.com can also give you a good clue of what domains around the keyword have actually sold for in the past.

I strongly agree with letting the buyer appraise what it's worth. Not always, but they can be your only hope for a profit on it.
