The Dot US forum, dead?

Is it just me or does the Dot US Section of the forum seem dead? I've made a post about 6 days ago, received only a handful of views & no comments, same with many other posts in that section. Makes me wonder why we have a seperate .us section here on Namepros

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

The major factor is just it's lack of popularity and usage. Most people in the US have never heard of .us. To be honest I think its a bit silly to introduce a ccTLD for a country that invented the .com :)

I am going to turn this on its head. This kind of result gives me confidence in the domain market.

Many people have said established extensions are given priority from end users but if this actually demonstrates it clearly to domainers themselves its a good thing. It helps prove valuable .com's, .nets, .co.uk's etc won't have their value watered down as new extensions are released. .us will eventually take off but I personally hope its never as valuable as the .com, simply because it allows us to have confidence in our current purchases and assets. I mean what happens if one day someone releases a .usa or a .com.usa etc; I hope they will have the same hurdle to climb to appeal to users. Hopefully .us will be the second (or third) most valuable extension in America over time and nothing will take that away from it, just as it won't take away from .com.

How can you gurantee that overseas registrants won`t lose their .Us when even Godaddy ask for a US address if you want to reg. US ?

Plus why take the risk......first they should open the restrictions like India did.

Regarding the .com, well if not even the creators figure out what they are doing... :tri:

There are few registrars that would let you register a dot US without being a residence in the US. It is a little similar to EnCirca.com that register .PRO but the price of course is a bit high.

It's my understanding that the hosting servers for US domains are supposed to reside within the US...along with whatever other restrictions.

As for US domains, I own a few, and they've never done well. I remember about a year ago or so there was a big discussion (call it an argument) here in NP between the US supporters and those saying the extension would never be a popular one...looks like the naysayers were right...at least so far.

Haven't heard much buzz on .us but I like it more than .eu, .ws, .biz.

How about a .info forum?

I think .us has slowed a little (Or may just appear that way with so much interest on .TV and .Mobi for the past few months) - But it is not Dead by any means. I plan to move back to some .us buying/registering actually as soon as I get a handle on what domains I own already.

For those losing faith :

http://www.dnjournal.com/ytd-sales-charts.htm

1. Video.us $75,000 Afternic/ BuyDomains 4/24/07

18. SexToys.us $15,000 GreatDomains 1/23/07

32. Insure.us $10,500 Afternic/BuyDomains 3/27/07

95. Gardens.us $4,950 Moniker/ T.R.A.F.F.I.C. 4/10/07

Duke just reported last month that a .us now sets on Top of the CCTLD Year to Date Sales list ;)

PS - I think people put way too much faith in sites like 3character<dot>com also .... Sites like that are based "Entirely" on "Reported Sales" ;) ;)

Not all sales are reported ~

Maybe at some point the dot US section was doing good. Sometimes when I post a dot US in its own section I get no responds so I end up reposting it in the main discussion to get more responds.

I did that before once because of no responses, but then the thread got moved to the US section anyway

There are no restrictions on the location of DNS servers AFAIK
