Verisign released its latest Domain Name Industry Brief, which takes a pulse of global domain registrations and trends. The following are the domain industry’s top-line numbers at the close of Q2 2014:

• 4 million domain names were added to the Internet in the second quarter of 2014
  (This increase globally equates to a growth rate of 1.4% over Q1 of this year)
• Worldwide registrations have grown by 18.6 million, or 7.2%, year over year
• The .com and .net TLDs experienced aggregate growth, reaching a combined total of approximately 128.9 million domain names in the adjusted zone for .com and .net in Q2 (The base of registered names in .com equaled 113.7 million names, while .net equaled 15.2 million names)
• Verisign’s average daily Domain Name System (DNS) query load was 95 billion across all TLDs operated by Verisign, with a peak of 204 billion
