I think we're all too familiar with the occasional appraisal scam emails and of course there's this enormous "emails from domainers selling crap names" thread here on NP too. But i received an email the other day that wasn't a scam, domainer trying to sell me a crappy name and unfortunately it wasn't an offer on one of my names neither. I received the following email which made me actually a bit sad and got me thinking about the fact that their could be a tragic story behind quite a few domains that drop each day..

I haven't blocked out any info except the detectives cell because all off this info is publicly available online - also, you never know but someone on here might know something in which case please get in touch with the ST in Connecticut.

Anyone else had similar emails/calls because of a domain you picked up?

Seems genuine from a Google search, obviously not a premium rate phone scam or link spam.

John left his residence in East Haven CT during the evening hours on Tuesday 4/26 and his vehicle was later found in the Hammonasset State Park in Madison CT, Unoccupied.

Doesn't look good. Apparently they searched the park and 'ocean'.

Phoenix, AZ โ€“ October 22, 2007 โ€“ WorkBlast.com, the leader in video resumes, has announced that the company has finalized an exclusive contract with Hireskills.com, a niche job board in the printing, publishing, and packaging industry. WorkBlast will power the Hireskills.com video resume database by providing the ability to create audio and video resumes through the Hireskills website, and giving employers the ability to search the video resume database on both WorkBlast.com and Hireskills.com. The partnership with Hireskills.com is just one of many emerging partnerships, said a WorkBlast spokesperson. "The ability to create video resumes is something that has been extremely well received by the employers and job seekers that currently use Hireskills.com," says Jack Lecza, GM of Hireskills. "The ability for us to add video resumes without incurring any development or implementation costs is huge for our users and for our business."

Seems as if Hireskills might have been a family business.

Has anyone else received any correspondence regarding the previous owner's domain and related business?

Yes, it's 100% legit. I also replied to the detective explaining that i acquired the domain after it dropped and explained it was most likely not renewed or paid for anymore by the previous owner.

I think you should edit the image and cross out the guys name/DOB and detective info

another dark side in the drop catching industry is called epik drop catching, even darker than that, the so called veterans with blogs that refuses to talk about it

you might forward all the domain emails to a single account (yahoo, gmail, etc) .

then have it flag any emails that mention his last name

I laughed at that, typical police, you would have thought a detective would know about whois! Although in these circumstances, it doesn't harm to send that template email to as many people as possible to try and get a lead. Makes you think though.

Oddly enough I have seen people names John/Jack go by the same name. Its like Richard/Dick is the same name but is totally different. Might just be the same person different name usage.

Well what do ya know.....

"Lecza is a white male, about 5'9" tall, weighing some 220 pounds, with blue eyes and salt and pepper hair. He is often called "Jack" as well as John."

Man, how much useless knowledge can by brain hold.

More towards the general topic... the strangest emails I get are adult oriented 'selfies'.

Yes... I always reply with a, "You have reached the wrong email, but thank you".

Cheers.

Its all over the net indexed in Google. I generally agree, but in this instance, if it helps find the person then its a fair trade off. For instance, just because you gone missing, doesn't mean you want your photo all up on lamp posts and on the TV... its just worried family and friends wanting to know they are safe. I don't know anyone who has sued for human rights violations because they wanted to break-away from their family and start a new life, but the media helped track them down.

In this instance, it seems like he might have passed away (making such details not personal information), been kidnapped, got lost or just wanted a new life. This information will help 3 out of 4 of the potential situations.

DomainVP you are right, Jack is a nickname for John, I did think that at first but felt it potentially unlikely. Of course a further search would reveal this! Good find. haha

adult selfies? I used to get a lot of "re: looking for a nice guy" (along the lines of) sort of classified ad replies. Just that I didn't respond to any advert to begin with! Probably a dating scam, some sob story to send money to... of course, I never tried replying, hoped they get the hint that no response means no email reached.

odds are better than random. interest in the domain might mean an interest in the former business.

haha, the problem is the east asia region... women are paid to chat and cam for scammers. you know they are real people... but if you send money for medicine, they don't get the money. Bit of a stereotype granted, I am sure some are actually genuine, but many are out to exploit it. At least with Nigerian scammers there are normally several thousand clues as to the fact you are talking to some poorly-educated bad-English man who sends photos despite being watermarked.
