Texas law enforcement officers and Border Patrol agents engaged in an armed standoff with Mexican military personnel and drug smugglers just inside the United States along the Rio Grande yesterday afternoon.

According to a report in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin of Ontario, Calif., both Texas law enforcement and the FBI stated nearly 30 American agents were part of the incident.

"It's not the immigrants coming over for jobs we're worried about. It's the smugglers, Mexican military and the national threat to our borders that we're worried about."

Thats pretty interesting. I heard about how their goverment is corrupted, even worse than ours, and when you have their military involved in this illegal drug smuggling, something has to be done.

Latest buzz is the Mexican government has said they believe it is American soldiers dressed as Mexican soldiers who are actually to blame... wonder what the real story is?

Why would US soldiers dress up like Mexican soliders...we need to get a kung fu grip on the US/Mexican border and end this crap.

Well, I'd like to believe it's not true but several American soldiers have recently been arrested for drug smuggling, so it's not out of the realm of possibility.

I stopped watching news on t.v and limit my reading of news online also so I must have missed that. All I know is that the border is becoming a more and more dangerous place by the day.

The US Servicemen busted recently were using US military flights to stash small amounts of drugs like cocaine out of South American countries, not pot. The coordination needed to put together something like what happened at the border would be near impossible to pull off with that kind of gear. Someone would notice the HMMW's missing from the motor pool and if they had weapons like machine guns, well you cannot just draw those out of the arms room for any reason.

Good points. It would be hard to just take a few hummvies from a US base. No matter what the case is, the goverment needs to put more security on the borders. It does not have enough personal to get the job done.

Hm, maybe they should bring some of them back from Iraq? Security starts at home, I always say...

agreed with you dgridley

country safety is more important then other countries safety.

Mexico govt. just proved that they are corrupted to the point where corruption ends... and now somebody needs to end it :)

The government needs to build a huge wall along the border and have 100ft deep moats on both sides and have senors as well as sensors in the ground. Once this is done less personel will be needed to guard the border.

One thing they need to do IMO is impose a temporary moratorium on immigration, cut ALL benefits to illegal immigrants, and do mandatory deportations of illegals.. double standards on immigration send the wrong message and until we can take care of everyone already here, we don't need an influx of new (illegal) arrivals.

There are plenty of them at home. I see hundreds of them everyday when I drive past the installations in my area. Of course the funny thing is that when this has been suggested time and again, to use US troops on the border, the general public has a fit. Then there is always the little thing of posse comitatus that is brought up.

Personally I am all for putting our troops on the border but the majority of the population seems to be against it.

We have sensors all over the border as well as IR cameras both fixed and mobile all across the border.

If you really want to see something done about it then write to your Representative and tell them. And then you stay on them time and again until they do something about it. When that does not work join a grassroots organization that will bring more attention to it and write you rep again. Sooner or later they will have to do something about it.

Illegal immigrants should not have any benefits in the first place. No welfare, no medical and so on. If they are in the system and they have not applied for assylum or a green card then we put them on the next thing smoking to where they came from and deduct the cost of the ticket from any aid we are giving that country.
