I remember hearing about some offer that some registrar was promoting to "test drive" a domain before you buy it. I think it gave you two weeks to decide if you wanted to keep the domain. Does anyone know where this offer was from and if it is still available? Thanks!

You're talking about domain tasting. Yes it's available. Dynadot you can taste domains for free, you can do it at Moniker as well, but they charge you a 25 cent restocking fee

Register a domain, pay for it.
Then in 5 days you can decide if you want to cancel.
If you cancel, they put your money back in your Dynadot account.

But it's only 5 days at most registrars, don't get stuck with one.

I disagree with the whole 'tasting' scenario, but I guess it makes sense for people domaining full time.

Resellerclub charges a $1 re stocking fee, but I've only ever used it for a typo I did while booking the name.

Hmmmmn a pleasant varietal .org with a alluvial aftertaste and moldy traffic.

For domain connoisseurs only!
