I am trying to get my head around the market and girls names keep coming up as sold, so I thought I'd ask about them. I'd love to hear about your domains, sales you know of, experiences and how it all fits together with extensions too.

I am just wondering the market for these, is it end users/domainers, doting fathers/boyfriends or real businesses?

Are shorter, more common, or prettier names better or is it random based on someone's loved ones names?

Is there as much of a market for Guys christian names too?

I'd love any insights as there seems to be no real use for them unless a company is branding one of them. Thanks

Thanks Biggie for the insight. I guess it is worth studying up on the all-time most popular names on the baby naming sites some time, so that is swirling around in the subconscious when looking at drop lists or sales listings. ;)

As an End-User, i have almost a dozen girl names that are successful online businesses. More than half of those sell merchandise online. While the remaining ones are websites for offline businesses like a Day Spa.

I have a guy name domain that i am currently developing for a Building & Architecture consultancy firm. You guess it, the name of the principal owner is the same as the domain name. Pure coincidence maybe. The guy tried to search for his name domain on Google, found my domain, contacted me to buy, offered him a package that includes the domain name + website development.

People names can be made into solid brands. It's a great marketing edge to have a unique brand identity of your own.

However, for Domainers, people names are a hard sell. Simply because you are just speculating that some girl named "MariaNellie", would want a domain called "MariaNellie.com (not yet taken)" and turn it into some high-revenue business. Only to find that your one and only buyer, is some teenage girl who wants to use it for her online diary and can't afford anything more than $30 dollars.

So in short, people names are considered "brandables" in a Domainer's handbook. The theory, of course, is the more "common" it is, the more people can think about it and want it.

I also own a girl name for 5 years now, that i didn't realize is a common girl name in Sweden. That probably explains why 90% of my traffic for that domain are from that country. Nobody from Sweden has tried to contact me yet.

One thing i can say, is that nearly every girl domain you put on PARKING companies, they will display Adult Oriented advertisements. These parking guys think that every girl name is always a come-on for pornography. So i never park them, as it would ruin the brand.
