Just got an email from Domain Monster touting the next hot TLD. This extension is just what the doctor ordered. Not.

".tel uniquely uses the DNS system to store universally accessible contact data. It allows you to store, update and publish contact information (phone numbers, web links, addresses, keywords) directly on the internet, anywhere, anytime. Simple, fast and accessible from any device, .tel provides a new internet standard for you to take full control over how and where people reach you or your business."

".tel really is a win-win launch! We won’t take more than 1 Pre-Order for each domain name at each stage of launch, so if you’ve pre-ordered pizza.tel, yours will be the ONLY application we submit to the registry, and it’ll get there within seconds of launch. Furthermore, we’re so confident of success we won’t take any payment until your order has been successfully processed and your .tel domain is live."

Boy how I miss the good ole' days when you registered a .com and got a .net or .org if the .com was taken.

Guess the clock is ticking on this aging domainer. :santa:

dot tel may have a great future!

Ive been looking into the viability of the new dot tel extension and have read hundreds of articles and posts about it and checked out the sample sites..here are my observations (for what it's worth)... most publicity (at least 90%) seems to be positive, the only real exeptions seem to come from domainers and domain forums. Problem for the most part is that some folks dont seem to grasp the fact that this is not just another website extension. It shouldnt even be compared to the likes of .mobi and .info! Domainers wont be able to monetise it so easily because it's not a website as such, so I can see why it's not a favourable option in this way. You can however link to a website through it and this is great in itself. Sure it's hard to say if it will take off with the masses, only time will tell but the format for it seems to be very good and I can only see massive potential. Facebook type sites do't compare eitehr because they are closed sites that you need to join to get contact details etc of someone, this is available to anyone and can even rank in google. It's about time this type of service came out because as it stands the internet is not very tidy, so a directory type system like this that organises contact details could in future even be the first stop to finding info on the web, at least that's the way I see it. :)

Ok, so what is a 'domainer's' incentive to buy more than one or two names, because as I see it, if one can't make money off a domain be it advertising or reselling, then what would be the point to invest or trade in .tel names then? Thus what would one be comparing it's success or acceptance to, in this scenerio?

i can see that for .tel to make money, one may need to do a lot of work..It is not as simple as present extension, whereby you can park for PPC, or develop a website to generate traffic and earn from adsense. Monetising .tel may be a longer process which then reduce the attractiveness to but many...nevertheless, domainers may still grabs some good names for future investment.

dot tel should be able to be resold at a profit at least if decent generic domain names are purchased early. For example a hotel company may want the hotel.tel domain for their own business. Whoever owns the .hotel should see a profit just from the name itself. Also, thinking about it, would not the fact that dot tel points directly to a website actually enable some kind of advertising revenue in some way in anycase- maybee it could link directly to a parked domain- in this way, you are using dot tel to bring you traffic, especially if google eventually ranked your dot tel quite well in the future.

Sure there will be a few kinks to iron out along the way with it, this is common surely for technology that hasn't been implemented like this before at this level, but it's not even that difficult for me to see the day when someone would type in a dot tel site first before even a dot com...now I'm talking way down the line here. There is risk with any new idea but there's nothing to say that it wont take off, only because it's about time something like this was used to navigate the web a little easier, especially on mobile units. I think a lot of folks are still a little sceptical also for the simplicity of it, but the more I play around with the sample sites, the more sense it makes, in most cases simple is better when your talking directories.

I am not sure if .tel allow tagging for analytics? Otherwise, how can we evaluate if my .tel has many searches and help to re-direct to other websites, whom I may charge for a fees (monetising a difference way)?

I think they will probably keep adding features to it as they go along to make it bigger and better, it's something that will evolve over time. In 2009 they will release a master directory which will help channel people to the right sites they are looking for (like a white pages or yellow pages directory online). In this way if a company name was called say Thompson limited, it would be listed under air conditioning for example (if that's what they sold), maybee in a yellow pages area, rather than a persons surname in the white pages directory (though it may say Thompson (Air conditioning) in the white pages directory too. In both cases I foresee that the directory would also be geographically sorted. I may be completely wrong, these are just my thoughts and nothing more, but it seems like it may run along these lines.
It's always fun to try and project ahead to see what the future will be in terms of how people access information on the net, time will tell though and until then we can only speculate as best we can huh.

In my point regarding a company called Thompson Air Conditioning,I forgot to mention that this would be an obvious way to distinguish them if they had only the name 'Thompson.tel'. It's this potential domain name confusion which is one of the kinks that may need ironing out.

Continued and consistent DAILY Net Losses in the zone file for the fading "dot Mobey" extension (according to RegistrarStats.com) ... and, according to Telnic.org, with now just less than 8 days to go for the launch of the highly brandable .TEL it would seem reasonable, as I had predicted some time ago, that some of this former "dot Mobey" speculative money may now be moving in the direction of the launch of the highly brandable .TEL (as well as .WEB and other new, diluting extensions)! :yell: :imho:

Just my two sense.

You're a joke  What indication do you have that mobi supporters will invest in the highly brandable .tell? You know .web will do just as well as any alternative ext. Domainers will jump in and buy good generics only to quickly flip them and get out for good! Come on homey :bah:

BTW, I had you on ignore but can't resist reading your silly posts ;) They're good for a laugh!

Same, I believe, as the highly brandable .TEL ... and, as I stated above, I think a good portion of what would have been :$: renewal monies for the failed "dot Mobey" will go toward both the .WEB and highly brandable .TEL in this manner, IMHO.
Please visit RegistrarStats to see the consistent daily "dot Mobey" Net Losses! :gl

Please put me back on Ignore™, or - again - go elsewhere to play full-time Rosey™ ... please ... as we deal with full and fair balance and REALITY here in the real world in the lively and professional (ie., no inconsiderate name calling!) discussions on #1 Namepros™, IMHO. :talk:

Happy Thanksgiving. :santa:

Why go elsewhere when I can play right here at the #2 .mobi forum ;)

Name calling?? Not calling you anything just your posts. They have been a joke for the 2 plus years I have been reading them...and jokes make me laugh

Best of luck with your .tell/.web investments!

Thanks, and after seeing your (and "Hollyweird's") HYPE and public agenda / personal assaults now for many months ... you should read and emulate Mark's (fellow "dot Mobey" supporter, Work In Progress) comments and level of maturity / professionalism ... in order for your posts to then have some logical meaning and actual credibility, IMHO.
I correctly predicted the demise (and saved :$: some fellow #1 Namepros™ members) of the "dot Mobey" ... over two years ago! :gl:

Take care, friend.

yesterday i go to name.com to register .com domain and saw that name.com start offer .tel domain and they got more example of .tel domain

IMHO, name.com are offering sunrise applications only - you have to submit your TM ownership info.
I think i'll try with myname.tel when registars starts accepting landrush applications.

edit - namemonster is accepting landrush registrations :)
