TDNAM Question

If a name does not receive a bid at TDNAM, how long until it is available for public registration?

I always thought that TDNAM was kind of like a last chance. Is it not available immediately after the auction ends?

Well---if you win it takes 2 weeks to get the name so I would guess 2 to 3 weeks but I recently was waiting on a name to come available that did not get a bid and after 3 weeks it was still not available----then I checked last week on it again and it was regged by someone else---who knows for sure---I guess I should have backordered it thru Godaddy to make sure I got it

Backordering thru Godaddy Does NOT insure you will get the name.

From my many experiences backordering with them, they will grab names
no one else is going after.

Although one might think so, it's no advantage to GoDaddy that the dropping domain was under GoDaddy's control.

Just recently, I missed bidding on a domain at TDNAM.

I wanted the domain so backordered it thru GoDaddy.

They were not able to secure the domain when it dropped.

Now it gets interesting.

Whoever registered the domain was apparently "Tasting" it
and released it a few days later.

I had not thought to check the domain's status again. But GoDaddy did
manage to grab it at that point so my backorder investment was
certainly worth it. :bingo:

Generally 2 weeks and you can have dibs at it (unless another drop service gets the domain).

TDNAM gets expired domain names when the name goes into a status called "quick redemption" (known as status 77). This is a "mock" redemption period that occurs after 12 days past expiration. At this point, the current registrant has the ability to redeem the domain name, up until about the 42 day (past expiration).

TDNAM auctions last about 10 days.

12 Days (then put onto TDNAM)
10 Days (auction ends)
-------------------------------
22 Days Past Expiration (still have 20 days before domain technically goes back)

This means that the domain name still technically belongs to the registrant owner for 3 additional weeks past expiration. Only after that time will the domain name drop.

In regards to a backorder (interesting note) Although GoDaddy backorders will act as your first bid on TDNAM - the system after the auction does not recognize "where" the domain name is. So, even though GoDaddy could fufill the backorder - the system is not setup to do so. It still goes through the basic process of trying to capture the domain name when it is "dropped". (very silly if you ask me, but hey, Bob's got a lot going on, especially after pulling GD from going public...... hard feelings i guess)
